Great sequel
John Rambo, played by Sylvester Stallone is still the same character here as he was in First Blood 1982. He’s very tough and doesn’t say much. I saw this film recently and wasn’t expecting such a great sequel. This time he is in full military action mode and has great support from Julia Nickson as his contact in the jungle. The movie Predator, a couple of years later, must have taken some of the ideas from this film although it’s a different story. Great to see Richard Crenna back in this instalment as well.Five stars from me.

Rambo: First Blood Part II
Continuing my way through the Rambo films before 'Last Blood' on Friday. This and the third film I haven't seen before. 'First Blood Part II' picks up after the first movie and sees John Rambo (Sylvester Stallone) released from prison by Colonel Troutman (Richard Crenna) for a top secret government mission in which he has to return to Vietnam.Nearly every aspect of this film exaggerates and/or changes the tone and style set by 'First Blood'. The action here is explosion heavy, bloody, loud and with rarely any stealth or subtlety (aside from a unfortunately too short and quickly edited bow and arrow section). The impact and sound design of the guns is brilliant and the final section is pure 80's action carnage and is a complete blast (pun intended) to behold. The helicopter stunts, explosion timings and effects really give the film and epic finale sequence.Stallone is good here, and entering comic book levels of muscular here which also doesn't make the film as tense and engaging as the first movie because it literally looks like he could deflect bullets. Also he doesn't really get any dramatic or really well written scenes to work with. Richard Crenna is still good as Troutman but the rest of the cast aren't nearly as memorable or interesting as 'First Blood'. Also this must have one of the most forced and pointless romance's in action movie history and the acting from both Stallone and Julia Nickson as the love interest doesn't help it.The pacing of the film isn't as good as the first either, especially due to its repetitive action sequences leading up until the finale. It felt longer even though it is the same length as the first movie. An entertaining and genuinely awesome at times popcorn action flick which is worth a watch, but not on the same level as its predecessor.
