Pastured chicken tallow
This is great chicken tallow. It tastes and smells very fresh and clean, and it's every bit as versatile as beef tallow. I've used it to make fries and as a general oil and butter replacement and it's worked great so far for me. It's more liquid than beef tallow, which is the biggest drawback and makes it more inconvenient to use. I like chicken tallow because it's much more unsaturated than beef tallow, which leads me to believe that it might be more heart healthy in the long run. I appreciate that this tallow is from humanely raised, pastured birds.Overall - it's high quality chicken tallow, but it's basically a jar of liquid and isn't in the usual tallow form that I'm used it.

Poorly packaged for transit
While the tallow is great, the packaging for delivery was lacking. The first time I ordered it, I got a message from Amazon that it couldn’t be delivered because the package was so damaged in transit. I got a refund but never heard from the company. I ordered again and this time it was delivered but was still damaged (see pictures). It would be nice if the packaging were more secure so the breakable product could be delivered without being damaged. The tallow itself is good!

Yummy!
Great alternative to cooking with seed oils. I love cooking with beef tallow but this chicken tallow/schmaltz adds a whole new flavor to your food. I love it for cooking vegetables and eggs.

Adds great taste to veggies
I’d never even heard of Tallo before I saw this as available. So far I’ve tried it while sautéing zucchini and some other vegetables and really loved the bit of flavor that it adds. I think my husband might even eat asparagus if I can talk him into trying it when fry it with zucchini in this!

I like the provenance of this product
It’s organic. That’s #1 in my book. Organic but not certified organic, so you just have to take the seller’s word for it.It smells fresh. No date on the jar to tell you when it was rendered and/or bottled, how long it’ll last if not opened, nor any recommendations on storage once it is opened. We’re storing ours in the refrigerator so it has a longer shelf life. My grand parents stored their lard in the basement and it kept fine. I’m doing the frig because we have the space and it’s a small jar.Rendered (melted until all water is gone) beef fat is called tallow. Rendered pork fat is called lard. My dad always called chicken fat schmaltz. Most chickens don’t have a lot of true fat on them. I would know since I used to help my Amish friends butcher their chickens. The yellow fat was always near their back end. Since this schmaltz is white (like lard) I’m thinking it might have been rendered from some chicken fat in the skins. I don’t know for sure since it doesn’t say. I’m just going by the color of this product and what I’ve seen on freshly butchered free range birds. It cooks up fine. It’s nice for frying foods and giving it a hint of a different flavor versus lard or olive oil. But it’s very expensive for the amount you get and for the fact that it’s not CERTIFIED organic.
