very comfortable!
I love to bareback. sometimes i ride with other people and someone short will borrow someone else's horse and i'll let them use my saddle. i had to really work hard to make the girth area small enough for my 15.5 hand mare but i did manage it. i've seen the other reviews about the stirrups but mine came pre-assembled and i had no problems with them. I do just fine with no saddle pad at all when cantering but the trotting gets painful. This pad really makes that particular gait much more comfortable and gives me extra grip when going up/down steep parts of the trail and doesnt slip when i lean over to fiddle with the gates. Whoever was complaining that the pad slips was probably not getting the girth tight enough.

Not what i excited
The saddle was extremely comfortable to ride in the stirrups had to be kind of reconfigured to stay any pressure in them with the way they came they would fall off unfortunately the first time I fell off my horse my foot was stuck in the Stirrup and the saddle completely ripped in half the company was very good about getting the saddle back to them and giving me a refund though

I am one happy rider!
I love this bareback pad. It is comfy and is teaching me how to ride again. I am able to ride up and down steep trails, trot and canter. I am quite heavy set and thus pad has kept me for the past month and half I've been using it. To keep the stirrups from falling off be straps you can loop them around twice and they will stay. Where there is a will there is a solution. Also, this bareback pad does not come with a cinch which is a plus. Other bare back pads have nylon holding the pad to your horse which I wouldn't trust to take out like I do this bareback pad. I couldn't imagine how uncomfortable that would feel on your horse.

Happy old pony
I have a 23-year-old arab/welsh pony. She belonged to our local Pony Club and is well schooled in showing and jumping. She is blind in one eye, however, and will not side-pass to that side. She also has a tendency to flip her head about to see so she is basically useless to show. I got her for my 12-year-old who has since lost interest in horses. I however, have NOT and enjoy tooling around the neighborhood with her. I've purchased both an english and western saddles for her to fit my younger daughter but didn't wish to buy a larger saddle for the little bit of riding that I do. I was in the market for a bareback pad because of expense and sizing problems.I chose this model because it appeared to be a bit more robust than the cheaper, plainer versions and because it had stirrups in case my 12-year-old wanted to ride. I am completely satisfied with it. I use it WITH a saddle blanket and a 28 inch cinch.I was a little surprised about how small it is. It fits me and Princess (yes, her name is Princess, no, I did not name her) just fine but it might be a problem for a larger rider or horse. I even have the stirrups let out as long as they'll go and I'm only 5'4".If you are a small person with a small horse in need of a quick fix in the saddle department for pleasure rides then this is a great buy. If you have a larger horse, are a larger person, are a less experienced rider and/or are going to be doing anything more strenuous than loping down a familiar trail, take the time and money to get yourself a well-fitting saddle.

Different in design but just as nice.
The original pad I purchased 15 years ago was much better designed, it had saddlebags and a larger squared rear-end. This one is good, just different. Like the previous one, I will take this to an upholstery shop and have them stitch the stirrup straps to the sides so I can mount from the ground. It works great, I'm over 200 pounds and my old one is still in excellent shape with no tears. Tough-1 makes some really great products.

It’s great if you do not have high expectations for it
The only thing positive about this is it, but it is very comfortable… The stirrups are a nightmare to use… And I don’t like that where you snap in the girth… Overtime it stretches out. I would not purchase this again or recommend this product.

Fabulous
Easy to handle. Lightweight. Quality craftsmanship. I use it for quick rides when I don't have time for the big-saddle routine. I place a light blanket on my horse's back and then the bareback pad. Fabulous for children.
