MOONDROP DISCDREAM 2 Ultra Portable CD Player Dual dac 4.4 Balanced Output

The Moondrop Discdream 2 Ultra CD player is worth every single penny in gold. It's gorgeously build, it's beautiful too look at and it's absolutely great funny tu use it. Fit and finish is up to the level of the Hi End audio equipment that costs thousands of dollars more. It's machined aluminum brushed finish is impeccable. Esthetically and functionalilly, there is nothing that's not absolutely perfect. Its true joy to use it and look at it.Now, the most important thing, sound.This little wander player is punching way about its pay grade. There is nothing that's missing from its performance that will impede listening experience and enjoyments in comparison with much more expensive players. It has plenty of power todrive every headphones that I can imagine. It's sound is perfectly neutral without being dull or boring. The hights are crispy clear and excellently extended without being sharp or glaring. The lows are brilliantly transparent and controlled, as is the entire sound picture through entire spectrum. Mid-range is the forte of this little gem! Vocals are rounded and full. Sound stage is wide and deep, the true three dimensional experience and ambient's characteristics are very well presented if the recording at hand has it. There is plenty of details and separation between instruments is so good that on good recordings there is no trace of congestions or muddiness. What's particularly impressive is reproduction of instruments true timber. Also, there is plenty of dynamic range and this player is very agile, quick, energetc and engaging with good headphones.All in all, I don't think that there is anything more that we can expect from this little audio gem.Certainly, even after comparison with my hi end home headphone system, I'm not missing anything that will make my listening experience to faltered.And in my home system only interconnects costs twice than this CD player.Highly recommended. Worth every penny I paid for it.

This is an outstanding CD player! I wanted something that's both built like a tank and sounds great. This CD player more than meets that criteria. It has a wealth of outputs minus Bluetooth of course.I can hook it up to my home system or take it on the go with a battery powered speaker. Its pretty much immuned to skipping. Do yourself a favor pay the price for this Moondrop Miracle.This the CD player that I've been waiting for all my life. : )-----------Edit-----------Shortly after my raving review of this CD player it stopped working. The lights would come on but no matter which CD I put in it would not spin. Very disappointed! I'll keep it at 5 stars for now. Could be just bad luck on my part.Hopefully the replacement will do better.----- Edit 2 -----The replacement has worked flawlessly. Very happy with this purchase!

Poorest possible electronics, failed to read any CD -- commercially recorded or made by computer. Do not buy.

This is a very well constructed player, and the portability will be a big help for continuing to use my old collection of CDs. Sound quality is great out of the balanced 4.4 output, although I am looking to get a mini toslink cable so I can feed it through my dac and see if it makes any difference. Probably not much, since it has dual Cirrus dacs already. Overall, I am very pleased. Not sure why a reviewer dinged it for not having Bluetooth; I can’t find anything that says it should, nor would I expect it to. It’s just a portable CD player.

I’ll start by saying that I really like it. It’s the best portable CD player on the market in my opinion. But there’s a few things I think would really make a big difference for any potential follow up version.The Good:- Excellent sound quality. I was a little worried when I saw it had Cirrus Logic DACs, but they seemed to make a good choice. It’s a little on the bright side, but bass is not lacking. It just sounds very clear and sharp. I like it better than AKM and about the same as Sabre DACs although the Sabre DACs are more neutral.- Gets plenty loud. It should sufficiently power any IEM on the market that I can think of, even the power hungry ones. I use 64Audio U12T and I have the volume at 12 most of the time. I think it goes up to 100?- I like the buttons. They are solid, have a nice click, and are a good size- I like that you can see the CD spinning. I’m a sucker for it lol idk.- Battery life seems… good? Should get at least 3-4 CDs through a single charge at a minimum, but I need more testing. That’s a lot better than others I’ve used.Opportunities for Improvement- I really wish the lid had some way of locking closed. Even if it was magnetic closing that would be great. Something to add a bit of resistance. I get worried that I could accidentally damage it.- I also really wish it had EQ. That is a huge, huge miss in my opinion. EQ / DSP is quite a critical feature for modern HiFI.- I also wish the lid was made of glass and not plastic. Seems like it would scratch easily and feels less premium compared to the all aluminum construction.- The screen feels like an afterthought for 2025. Just an old school cheap display that you would see on a 90s CD player with no extra features. It displays the track and current time and that’s it. I guess it keeps the battery life up that way, but no extra features is wild for this day and age.- It’s all aluminum, but aluminum is not all created equally. It feels like a cheaper aluminum. The brushed finish probably doesn’t help with that. It would be much better to use 6061 aluminum with a standard matte finish. How it is now doesn’t feel very premium.Verdict:If you want a modern portable CD player that has HiFi quality for today’s IEMs, this is the one to go with. It’s better than all the others currently offered. But just keep in mind that that’s literally all it does. There are zero bells and whistles. It’s like an Apple product: you plug it in and go and it does exactly what it’s supposed to do, but don’t expect any customization.
