I was a bit worried about this order, after all, so many reviews stated that this clock was of poor quality and generally not worth the purchase. Was I ever surprised when the clock arrived! This is a lovely clock, hefty, well-made and perfect for those with older houses and furniture. This is a large clock, with a well-lit dial, it is very easy to set and generally of fine quality. It fits in perfectly with the style of an older home.The instructions do list it as being produced by LL Bean. Having been an avid follower of LL Bean for many years, this label served to assure me of the excellent quality and durability of this clock. The clock has some buttons on the back that you turn to set the clock and the alarm, this is very easy to do. The battery cavity is on the bottom of the clock, and easy to load with 2 AA batteries (not included). It is not necessary to use the batteries,the clock will work without the batteries, the batteries are a back-up in case you lose power. The clock- face is large and well-marked. The glow of the dial is not too bright and will not disturb your sleep. It is, however, more than bright enough to be easily read throughout the night. The clock is completely silent, there is no ticking noise.I can definitely recommend this clock. I can only imagine that the clock design has been updated recently, that might explain some of the negative reviews. I like this clock so much that I am buying yet another for a different bedroom. Heartily recommended!UPDATE: I now have 3 of these clocks, 2 in yellow and 1 in blue (ordered directly from LL Bean - same price, free shipping). I can not speak highly enough about this item. Somehow, it is such a comforting design, the soft and muted, lighted dial makes one feel that they are staying at Grandma's house. The clock is SO easy to use, it is very easy to read the dial when the room is dark. The style is perfect for my 100 year old house in New England. I am going to order 2 more, one in tan, one in green. Both of those colors are available on the LL Bean site, they are sold at the some price and with free shipping. LL Bean is a very reputable company and will accept any return for whatever reason, for always. Just as Amazon stands behind their products, so does LL Bean. After wanting this clock for years, I finally purchased one from Amazon. As soon as I lifted the clock from the box, I knew I may have made a mistake. The plastic is flimsy and feels like it will crack by just holding the clock. The alarm on/off button is really tricky and doesn't always click down (like last night...I thought I had clicked it down, but apparently not far enough as the alarm didn't go off this morning). It's pretty though, and I do like the sound of the alarm, but if an alarm clock can't be trusted to go off in the morning, then what good is pretty? Westclox made good on their warranty. They sent me a new clock much to my delight, and the alarm button was working perfectly. Within one week's time, it was obvious this clock was a dud as well. This time, the snooze feature works when it feels like it. 3/4 of the time, the snooze just stops working after hitting it once or twice. I'm usually a 3 timer with the snooze. This clock just doesn't want me to wake up on time. Beautiful but totally unreliable.

What a wonderful clock. I could not find a clock that would not keep me from sleeping. I am very sensitive to light! I can't have the standard red digital clock as the red light keeps me awake unless I turn the clock towards the wall. However with the clock towards the wall I can't see what time it is during the night which is very annoying. I bought this clock because it did not have the red numbers and because it had the light alarm. I figured that a light going off would be a very effective way to wake up. I was right! I tend to wake up on my own and I get really crabby with the "dee-dee-dee-dee-dee" of a standard alarm clock. My ears feel like they are bleeding! So this clock has the alarm only option or light and alarm. I wish it had the light only option but it does not. At anyrate the light goes off first for 5 minutes and it you are not awake by then the sound alarm goes off. The light blinks on and off and gets brighter and brighter if you don't wake up. This light wakes me up and I tend to wait until the sound goes off and then I get up but I'm already awake and I'm not all irritated by the alarm sound.A very nice bonus feature is the clock face can be lighted or the light can be turned off. I like to see the time if I happen to wake up in the night but again I am very sensitive to light so I was a little concerned about using the light feature. However it is such a low yellow light that I can have it sitting on my night stand pointing straight at me and it doesn't bother me at all! The face is large and I can see the time but again, the light itself on the face is a very low, warm color and does not keep me awake. That was an added bonus that I was not expecting.The clock is also larger than most clocks. Its a nice size. When I opened the box all my kids (who are grown and happened to be home) were like, "I want one!!" We all liked the size and the look. It does come in other colors but Amazon had the best price but with only one color. Bummer! But I don't care, the yellow looks great in my bedroom. Great buy.

Not loud at all. I have a moon beam clock I bought years ago. It works great still and is LOUD. This one I just purchased for my son is not loud at all. I don't know if its defective or if this is how the newer ones are. Might have to return it because if it doesn't wake him up it defeats the whole purpose. He wanted one like mine because mine is so loud. Its still pretty and the light flashes but he's gonna sleep right thru this bell. Very disappointed.
