AltraMen's Escalante 4

Another win from Altra!
The Escalante 4 are the second pair of Altra trainers that I own and thankfully these are just as good as the first pair. The level of comfort from these shoes are a massive part of the overall reason why I like the brand. The wider fit and more natural shape to the shoe, does an excellent job of supporting the foot and avoiding cramping, especially when wearing a thicker material sport sock.Whilst these trainers do an excellent job when used for sporting activity, I use them on a daily basis for work. They look great with a pair of jeans as part of a smart/casual dress code, and their perfect for walking through town of a lunchtime, or even walking home after work. They're versatility in that regard make them an ideal shoe choice for a daily wear, as well as an activity-only sport shoe. The brand speaks for itself and the Escalante 4 are an excellent addition to their line-up. An easy one to recommend.

Great for running.
These are a very comfortable pair of shoes. These are best put to use when running but this doesn't mean you can't use them for other activities as well. The shoes have a more peculiar shaped toes area with the front shoe being slightly wider than regular shoes with the emphasis being on the big toe. This sort of shape helps with sprinting and uphill walking/running as it encourages the natural movement of digging the toes into the ground when the body is leaning forward more. Both the inner and outer soles are soft, still comfortable even after lots of steps. They have a mesh like fabric, which is thick and dense, offering good protection if walking in more challenging environment while still being breathable. The shoe tongue is thin and laces are strong which will hold securely regardless how tight you want your shoe.Aside from the high intensity activities these shoes can easily be worn if out just for a relaxing walk.

A good looking zero drop shoe!
I chose the Altra Escalante 4's as they are one of only a few in the Altra range that still uses their 'original' shoe shape - meaning the are their widest fitting toe box.The Black/Black colourway is more of a charcoal/grey...but this looks very smart.Nice cushioning, without the need for a huge midsole!!They are a wide fit, but anyone used to minimal./barefoot shoes are usually after more width...these were still slightly tight fitting for my 11cm wide feet!Might try a half size up and see how I go!Would still recommend going by my initials try of these!

Great update!
★★★★★ Surprisingly Great Update – Love the Feel and Fit!I’ve been a fan of Altra for years, and the Escalante 4 really impressed me. Right out of the box, they felt light and flexible. The knit upper gives a snug, sock-like fit that’s super comfy, and the new midsole feels a bit firmer than previous versions – in a good way. It’s more responsive and perfect for my daily runs and gym sessions. What I really appreciate is the zero-drop platform and that roomy toe box – my toes finally have space to breathe! It’s helped my form feel more natural, and I’ve had less foot fatigue overall. Also, they just look great. The green color is more muted in person, which I actually prefer.Only downside: they do feel slightly narrower than the Escalante 2.5 or 3. If you’ve got wider feet, you might want to size up or try them on first. Also, not the most breathable for really hot days, but nothing major.Overall, super happy with this update. If you're into minimalist-style shoes or looking to switch to something with a more natural ride, definitely give these a shot!

Decent Performance with Room for Improvement
The Altra Men's Escalante 4 is an average option in the world of running shoes. While there are certain features that stand out, such as the zero-drop design that encourages a natural running posture and the responsive EGO midsole that provides a comfortable ride, there are a few shortcomings that hold it back. The fit is somewhat inconsistent, especially around the midfoot area, which may result in unnecessary friction during longer runs. Additionally, while the updated knit material offers breathability, it can feel less supportive than expected, particularly in lateral movement. Overall, it's a fair choice for casual runners, but avid runners might want something with a bit more stability and enhanced durability.

Super comfy
Bought these for running initially but will probably end up wearing them all the time as they are so comfy. Just the right level of cushioning and responsiveness I like from the sole when running, support the foot nicely and plenty of room in the toe box which I have trouble with in other running shoes. Like the colour combination and mesh top that lets your feet breath.

Great Running Shoes
These are great running shoes that are comfortable and with a wide toe box. However, they were not black like advertised for some reason.I had to use the Kaps Black Colour Restore for Sneakers to change them black, which you can see from the before and after pictures. The lighting is slightly off, but I used a pair of black sketchers as a reference and so that you can see the difference.Apart from that, these are really good quality running shoes that are also quite stylish.
