The best this title has ever looked
A truly gorgeous transfer marred only by a 40 second bad stretch of unbelievably bad image beginning at three minutes eleven seconds. Otherwise it’s truly stellar image throughout the rest of the movie. There is an informative audio commentary as well as a critic’s appreciation of director Henry Hathaway. There is another feature on screenwriter Marguerite Robert’s that while informative is marred by inept sound recording. All that being said the transfer for the most part is superior and for fans of Dean Martin and Robert Mitchum this is a good buy.

Regular Blu-ray
This item is not a 4k Blu-ray but is a regular Blu-ray. The transfer is beautiful on this B western.

Just blu-ray not a 4K disc
This is just a Blu-ray Disc made from a 4K scan. It is not a 4K disc. I knew this before ordering because I read other reviews but the disc was advertised for sale as a 4K disc.

When he played he played for blood…
5 Card Stud (based on the novel Glory Gulch by Ray Gaulden) was made as a Paramount movie starring Dean Martin & Robert Mitchum. The title tune “Five-Card Stud” sung by Dean Martin has always been a personal favorite of mine. The movie was previously released by Paramount on DVD back in 2003 but needless to say this blu-ray is a big improvement in terms of picture quality and sound. The back side of the reversible sleeve is based on the DVD release. A must have for Western fans!
