Not a bad substitute...but needs seasoning (included recipe I for 'mock Prego meat sauce' in review)
From opening the bottle it smelled like a perfect tomato sauce and so was really hopeful. And it doesn't taste half bad, however it has a bitter aftertaste like an old carrot top, and has a sweetened beet hint to it that kind of throws your taste buds off.First I need to say that I purchased this jar as a quick afterthought before I received a shipment of a dozen from the company itself that is due to arrive in another week, (didn't want to wait and needed to know what I was in for -- so keep in mind this can be purchased more economically on the company website, but it takes longer to arrive). For me to get this jar before hand gave me time to think of how to incorporate it for a parent that has tomato allergies and was sorely missing tomato's.If you're expecting to use this right out of the jar -- you coooouuuuuld, but it didn't work for me. so for those of you that ordered and thought it was going to taste just like prego...you'll be disappointed with the taste, and thats why today I spent the afternoon cooking with it and came up with a 'mock Prego meat sauce' that even my Sicilian mom approves of (who came down with the tomato allergy about a year ago).Hopefully this will help ease the blow of your disappointed tastebuds.Ingredients:clove of garlic (or minced garlic, garlic powder)1/2 onion (or onion powder)5 oz ground beef (or meat of choice)olive oil for cooking (as well as adding to flavor later)2 tablespoons Italian seasoning (or fresh basil and oregano)2-4 tablespoons of fresh granted parmigiana Reggiano1 tsp sugar (or if your watching sugar intake : 1 packet spenda/ or sugar substitute)1/2 teaspoon salt (or 1 anchovy)In medium heat coat medium saucepan with olive oil, slice garlic clove in half and remove the center (the bitter part) and crush the two halves and place in pan with 1/2 minced onion till translucent.Add ground beef and brown (at this point you can leave in the two garlic parts if you want, remove it later or just leave it in depending on how much garlic taste you like in your sauce). When the beef is browned, add the whole jar of Nomatto, the Italian seasonings, salt, an the cheese.Cover and let simmer over low heat for 20 minutes (stirring occasionally) About halfway though you can add the sugar substitute, depending on your taste preferences)The flavors will meld together, and after 15 to 30 minutes should be perfect. depending on your taste, you can ad more seasonings.Since this is pretty much the only alternative right now that I can use for tomato's I'll take it. However just keep an open mind when you get it. Just think of it as a tomato sauce base you have to season to get to be a tomato sauce and it'll be fine!

Amazing flavor, but a bit expensive
As someone who has had to eliminate all nightshades, but loves foods with tomato sauce (pizza, spaghetti, etc.), I have looked hard for a replacement that tastes close to tomato sauce. Until I found Nomato, I was completely out of luck unless I wanted to make my own. No other tomato-free sauce comes even close to tasting like what I want, so I am overjoyed to find this line of sauces. That said, it is pretty expensive, but I bite the bullet and always have an extra bottle on hand.

Not as good as I hoped.
I have RA and nightshades will make my joints flare. Tomato sauce has been one of the hardest things for me give up. This jar of Nomato has been my third try at nightshade free sauce. It’s just OK. Convenient if needed in a pinch, hence 3 stars. The other two brands I’ve tried were better. It’s lacking flavor and acidity and it smelled a bit too much like beets to me. Didn’t necessarily taste like beets though. I had to season it a bit more. For the high price tag though, it just was not worth it for me. There is another jar brand I will have in hand, but my next step is to experiment with making it fresh myself as I heard that’s the way to go.

Great substitute for tomato allergy
I grew up eating tomatoes, and they were easily one of my favorite foods. Atleast until I developed a severe allergic reaction.I saw this sauce pop up in a TikTok video, and immediately went to Amazon to order. While this nomato sauce is pretty pricey, it's definitely a great alternative to marinara. My husband and I managed to make three separate meals with just the one jar. But I don't think I'd order this more than once every two or three months just because of the price. It's more of a "i really have a craving" type thing.

Best no tomato sauce
I love tomatoes but I have a food sensitivity. This sauce is awesome. Sometimes I add a little fresh lemon or garlic.Even my family loves it and they don’t miss the tomatoes.
