Emergency Release Lock Kit, Disconnect Release Key Locks with 2 Keys, Opener Quick Release Locks for Universal Garage Door

I have a garage that is accessed only by the garage door. Whenever the power is out, I cannot get inside to release the door opener. I installed this device and it works just fine. It was not difficult to install with a drill, wrench and screw driver. One caveat: I found that the cable needed to be attached to the garage door opener release lever to provide enough tension for the lock mechanism to operate.

The media could not be loaded. Once the door is closed, the slack in the cable drops downward, leaving the loop at the lock cylinder interfering with rotation of the lock. When the door's closed, the lock cylinder can't turn far enough to release... defeating the purpose of the lock. Video was taken with the door closed, and somebody outside trying to turn the key far enough to release the cylinder and cable. No luck.

We moved into a new house and the previous owner had not given us the key for the existing lock. It is likely she didn't know where it was in the first place as these are often "set and forget" devices for emergency's only.The only way to get into our detached garage is by opening a bay door. And both bays are opened normally with the motors. So I was particularly concerned about being able to get to our cars in the garage during a power outage. This device was easy to install and performs the function perfectly. A nice peace of mind for something we may never need but if we do, we will be super happy we have it.
