Q: What if I forget the default code? It’s not 000 since we change it? Is there a fix or can we send it back and trade it?

The default is 321. On this very page; https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07TC2B6KC/ref=ask_ql_qh_dp_hza midway, are the steps to set the lock code and reset it if you happen to have forgotten it.

Q: Will the coins stay in the trays if the box is tipped or turned upside down?

No, that wasn't the case with me. Once I closed the box, coins went all over the place. There's nothing directly covering the coin trays to keep them from falling out / commingling when carried sideways or upside down. I would have ordered a different box with coin tray cover if I had I known.
