Do you like a good coddle?
I purchased three of these, all in differing styles. I like the quirky design on this and wish they'd do more like it. They come packed into a small but very strong carton and as I bought three, these were then inside a typical outer deliver carton. None were damaged on arrival. Size-wise, they are big enough for a large egg with suitable accompaniment and while two small eggs may work, I don't think you'd get enough 'filling' in there as well, beside, separate coddler' will keep the second one warm whilst you eat the first. The metal screw top is a tight fit -as you'd expect, so care needs to be taken when opening them, especially since there may be a steam build-up inside and the ceramic will be hot.

Love it
Love this little egg coddler. Love the little hen on it. It works really well with one egg but I didn’t have success with 2 eggs. I use it all the time

Useful but
Egg codlers are useful for a variety of heating a lot of things other than eggs and can go straight to the table or supper tray. These were much what I expected, but very clumsy compared with the Royal Worcester ones I had for years until I foolishly gave them to somebody who craved them. Such a pity they have been discontinued.

Poor quality and useless
On first use, the egg took much, much longer to cook than the instructions said. When lifted out of the pan, the handle broke, then the lid would not come off until it had cooled down. When the lid was taken off, it had buckled slightly due to the heat. Waste of money and awaiting a refund.

Perfect eggs
Coddling eggs are great, butter the inside crack in an egg or two and place in water with the lid on 3/4 way up the jar for 7 minutes results in perfect cooked eggs that soldiers can be dipped into and eaten without any horrible egg shell being accidentally eaten at the same time. I’ve given them as gifts there that good.

Quality is quite poor. One came broken and the second one is on the way. I would recommend a coddler without metal pats suitable for microwave - this is not the one.

The First Three Are Perfect But The Fourth Not So
I ordered three of these super cute egg coddlers that arrived with much better designed lids with the metal knob screwed onto the lid rather than the problematic ring pull lids that have had so many bad reviews. So I was very happy and decided to order one more. However the one I got had the old ring pull design lid that was really badly soldered on, so I could see it wouldn’t last five minutes. I packed it back and sent it back to Amazon who refunded me. I’m now waiting to see when Amazon update the egg coddler photos with the improved lids with screwed on lids, then I’ll order one. So it’s a shame with the old lids as they look awful and are totally impractical as you can’t lift the coddler out of the hot water easily without something to hold to pick it up.As for cooking the eggs, greasing the inside of the coddler and it’s lid is important to stop the egg sticking. Also don’t over tighten the lid on when cooking and put the coddler in boiling water. I found one egg per coddler worked best for cooking thoroughly and getting soft eggs, though if scrambling with other ingredients is easier to cook. It is trial and error. It’s big enough to hold two large eggs. It does take longer to cook than boiling eggs and they rattle in the water but it is a pleasure to eat from a porcelain coddler. My late Father used to say he’d get me one, he never did so when I saw these I had to get some for my family and I to try. I’m looking forward to getting my fourth one as soon as Amazon have the newer design lids ones again. Please see my photos to see the new improved lids I received from my first order, then the second order and the poor designed lid.
