These work!
I got these to teach a group of girls how to start a camp fire. It was easy enough to strike the ferro rod and make a spark. You will need to have something for the spark to ignite. I had the girls dip cotton balls in Vaseline and try to ignite it. When they ignited the cotton ball, they carried it to the fire pit and grew it using tinder and kindling. Then they cooked their meal (hotdogs and s’mores) using the fire they helped build. These were easy enough for girls ages 8-10 to use. I would suggest watching a YouTube video or studying up on using magnesium fire starters BEFORE using these. One of the things I learned that helped me teach the girls proper technique was pulling the bar towards you while holding the striker rigid and pointing it towards the cotton ball. The price for 4 of these were amazing! Good to put in bug out and camping gear. Small size makes it super compact. Great value and it worked so well. Will definitely be buying again.

I needed some of these for a SHTF kit. Glad I got them. Tried one out and it works like a charm. Dang near set my cat on fire. Poor kitty... (Joking!)

Great little fire starter for the price, I bought this for a small fire-starting kit, and it went great with it.

Excellent!
I am very impressed at the quality of this product. At three bucks each, they outperform Harbor freight's China-made mag bar on every level. The magnesium is softer and easy to scrape/shave. The strikers are nice and big, but you'll need to do some prep work on them. Since they are coated with paint, they won't perform properly until you take a file to the edges and get down to the actual metal. Continue filing until you've created a good 90 degree angle, preferably with a noticeable burr. Once achieved, they'll throw sparks like boss. One other thing ... I recently watched two videos regarding mag bars. In one, the guy scraped so hard that his magnesium scrapings were too large, and because he couldn't get them to ignite, he was heavy-handed and went through a third of his (ferro) sparking insert just to get one fire. In the other video, a guy calmly, gently scraped the bar five times and gently sparked off the small pile of shavings with one strike, and he did it seven times in as many demonstrations. The lesson? Stop putting the spurs to it ... use only as much force as is necessary. Your fire starter will last darn near forever, and you won't trash the product as "junk" because you'll be using it smartly ... and successfully.I highly recommend this product.
