This product is fine.
I purchased this plug to put on the cord of a small 12 volt submersible pump that I use to pump fresh water into my Aliner pop up camper holding tank from a 7 gallon jug. I also installed the mating Marinco socket right next to the water tank fill port on the camper. I have been using the socket/plug/pump for over a year with no issues. I like a number of things about it; it is glass filled nylon with plated copper contacts. It is internally fused to protect the socket and circuit it is plugged into. It has sealing grommets on both the cord and the socket. And finally it has a red LED to indicate when the pump is getting power. I have purchased a number of different Marinco items for my camper and they are all high quality since they are to be used in marine environments which are generally harsher than RV environments. Peruse a Marinco or Blue Sea Systems catalog and you will understand what I am talking about. Ancor Marine grade wire is another fine example. Now I generally no longer purchase items for the camper at RV stores but rather at marine supply places or especially Amazon. The reason I am writing this review is I just ordered a second one for another device to be used in my camper and I noticed some negative reviews.Note: The only thing this plug does not come with is an Automotive or Marine Electrical Technician to connect the wires for you. To those who have had problems getting the wiring correct I would say that perhaps you should leave the wiring of such a sophisticated electrical device to professionals. Most surely these would know which terminal to attach the hot wire to regardless of what color it is painted. A second option is to purchase a digital multi meter and know how to use it. (This second option might be less costly.)

Just right
I wanted to put a weatherproof 12 volt outlet on the outside of my little pop-up trailer but reviews on line were bad-mouthing the "spin-offs" of this little receptacle. This one is genuine. It's well made,& it arived a day sooner than expected. Some people have said that the sun made the cap get loose pretty quick. I live in the desert & my trailer has the receptacle on the sunny side where I keep it. I found that the caps on the Butane cannister for my back pack stove will push inside the weather cap & it tightens it so it CAN'T fall out. It's well made & instructions are simple. The mfgr. recommends using it in conjunction with their twist-in plugs but I didn't want to have to change the plugs on my 12 volt stuff. Vibration is not a problem with my activity so the regular plugs work fine.May 2013 up-date. I wound up putting their companion twist-in plug on my solar charger.I found that just a little "bump" would sometimes cause my little solar charger to break connection. The plug installation was a snap & now it makes a more reliable connection.I still give this a 5 star rating.

Just what I was looking for.
I bought this receptacle to mount to my SV650 to power a gps that I wanted to use. I was looking for a marine grade one and this is what I found. The locking function works with other plugs but without the water tight seal, which is fine with me as I will not be running my GPS in the rain. The cap is the other thing that was a draw for me. I wanted to keep the inside dry and free from dust and other things when not in use and it works well. Install was a snap, and the included bevel is nice, the whole unit stays put even with all the vibration. Overall a great buy and it delivers as advertised.

12V Plugs pushed or fell out of these Receptacles
I installed two of these in our RV to use our 12V electric blankets on a trek thru Alaska, sometimes the plug would loose connection when inserted into the Marinco 12V receptacle. I got the feeling a deeper receptacle would have solved the problem but I really don't know if the problem is the receptacle or the plug. The blanket plug fits nicely and seems secure when testing in my car which has deeper sockets.Another thing about these receptacles, the threaded nut used to secure the receptacle from behind came off on one of my receptacles because it only uses part of the threads to secure it, I thought this was great during the install but had to re-tighten the nut while on our vacation.

Nice external build quality but fiddly internals
I was looking for the best quality cigarette lighter plug I could find. Others had recommended this in particular, so I've tried it. The external build quality is nice, and I think it's sturdy and will hold up under use. It's only locking with the matching Marinco socket. The internals seem far too fiddly for me, however. The positive terminal and the positive leg of the LED is VERY close to the right-hand side (plug facing away from you, led in the rear) ground spring. As is the exit of the positive terminal with the left-hand side ground spring. What this means is that when using stranded wire, you have to be very careful about the length in which you trim your positive wire. Ground wire has enough room. I also wrapped the ground spring on the right hand-side in kapton tape to prevent an accidental short. It's much easier to assemble this if you remove the guts outside of the plastic shell and manipulate it there. Lastly, If you're using any gauge higher than 16awg, then I'd doubt it would fit in the screw terminals. If you go solid conductor, it would be less fiddly and probably less flexible as well.

not for 14 GU. wire
I bought this for my John Deere X738 to power my new sprayer, this has a led to let you know if the power is on, the insulation on the positive side of the led was to short and grounded out and took out the fuse on the tractor, after cutting out the led it worked better the connections are to tight for the heavier wire needed for 10 to 15 amp wire. Stranded wire will not stay under the small screws without shorting out.
