Muscle Rack UR301260PB5P-SV Silver Vein Steel Storage Rack, 5 Adjustable Shelves, 4000 lb. Capacity, 60" Height x 30" Width x 12" Depth, Silver

I had recently purchased the 36 x 60 x 18” Edsal steel press board shelving unit from Home Depot for over $80, so when I saw this one on sale for $30 less, I was intrigued but a little skeptical. The dimensions were the same and the components and construction were also very similar. I ordered two of these Muscle Rack shelving units and installed them next to my Edsal unit. The boxes didn’t have a listed weight, but they seemed to weigh about the same as the Edsal, which was 60 lbs. Once you open the boxes, you find that the parts are fairly light. All you need is a rubber mallet (not included). I thought the rails seemed slightly thinner and lighter than the Edsal’s, but I may be wrong. They were very easy to put together. Even easier than the one I got from Home Depot, particularly when it came to the post connectors. They are an absolute breeze to assemble compared to the Edsal’s connectors. It seems a little wobbly and unstable when you first start putting it together, but as you go, you will find that it’s actually really solid and sturdy. I didn’t put tons of weight on the shelves, so I can’t attest to the weight capacity that they claim; however, the shelving units suit my storage needs perfectly and some of my items were kinda heavy (about 30 lbs). There were no missing or broken parts in my sets. After putting the first unit from Home Depot together, I didn’t really need to look at the instructions for the Muscle Rack. These steel keyhole racks are easy enough to assemble that once you do it one time, you’ll have the hang of it. The most important things to note are that the round silver disks (which I call “buttons”) are supposed to be visible from the *outside* of the unit; the keyholes are, like keyholes in doors, supposed to be positioned with the big part at the top; you must tap the rails down with a mallet so that the buttons settle firmly into the small part of the keyhole (I saw some review where the buyer complained about how unstable the unit was—even though you could clearly see that the rails hadn’t been tapped down. 🙄 The Amazon page doesn’t help because even in one of their product pics, you can see a gap under the button. Tap them down and your shelves will be secure!); the “<“ curve faces the inside of the unit because it’s going to serve as a surface for the shelf to rest on; and the shelf rails, from the outside have a line running horizontally from end to end—the part above the line is not equal in size to the part below. Make sure they are turned so that the smaller half is on top. Put the post connectors on the posts of the partially assembled unit, set the new posts just inside of the exposed end of the post connector and tap the end of the new post until they are fully seated within the connectors. (No need to slam the mallet down—gentle taps will do. Try to make sure you are tapping straight down, not at an angle.) I find it’s best to do this while you are facing the inside of the unit and can see the posts getting closer to each other. You can set the shelves to the heights that you prefer/what works best for your items. A difference between the Muscle Rack and the Edsal is that the MR’s boards are smooth on *both* sides, so it doesn’t matter which way you set them on the unit. One more tip: you don’t *need* scissors to put the units together, but it’s nice to have a pair because while the plastic endcaps can be snapped apart by hand, there will likely be little plastic “sticks” left that are best cut off for a cleaner finish. These units are way easier to put together than I’ve probably made them sound, so please take my word as a lazy short woman who is not at all handy or strong: you can do it. I am pleased with the quality of the unit and will definitely buy more once the price drops again. Even at its current price ($70-something at the time of this review), it’s a good deal compared to similar units (including the Edsal). I really like the fact that these are made of metal and wood instead of plastic. I like the fact that the shelves don’t have gaps for things to slip through and that the points of connection are metal and cannot slide or become lopsided (unlike the shelves of certain wire racks). They should last a long time if properly cared for!

I use these shelves in my storage room at work. I love that they are not too deep, but wide in length, so they still hold a lot. Strong enough to hold a microwave and light enough to move amc modular. I have 2 of these in my storage room at work.

The quality is good for the pricing. My one compliant is they smell of cut particle board. The odor should dissipate over time. Maybe wiping down the shelving before assembly would help???

Buckle up this is a long read.Ordered two racks, both arrived with holes in the shipping box which lead to one unit missing parts (was re-tapped at some point during shipping). Upon opening the packaging there is no support, foam or anything aside from a small cardboard piece to protect one end. The cross beams come in two flat boxes within the main box but also float around inside their own box. The lack of padding, foam and etc leads to what a lot of customers have issues with such as bent/warped beams, missing parts like the floor protectors (which I assume come in the small plastic bag but both bags were ripped open on my units) and beam couplers missing which are small enough to slip through any holes.The instructions sheet is also unprotected from the metal beams bouncing around and gets shredded making it illegible. I was able to puzzle piece one together enough to tape it together to read and use, the 2nd was unusable.The particle boards are decent quality but arrived with half of them chipped on the corners (once again good packaging would solve this issue). I would recommend cleaning them before use as there is plenty of wood dust on them and possibly stain them or put some adhesive wallpaper on them to protect them to make them look good if you care enough.For assembly a large and small rubber mallet is needed but I would suggest a pair of pliers or channel locks to rebend some of the beams, and some center punches.Despite all of the above, one assembled they are decent quality and believe they should hold up without issue for my use case which is to hold a mini fridge, small storage bins, a pelican case and various small objects.If the company is reading this, CHANGE YOUR PACKAGING! It needs at least corner protectors on the particle boards, the slotted vertical beams should at least be wrapped together or in their own box, the joiners and floor protectors should be placed in a small box, the instructions could also be placed in said small box to protect it from being ripped apart or missing entirely due to damage to the shipping box. The entire inside should then be encased I foam/extra cardboad to protect BOTH ends and flat sides. The shipping box should also be upgraded to a higher density cardboard that can survive the shipping process.To anyone customers ordering, select to ship within an Amazon box to potentially avoid it arriving destroyed or missing parts. Currently awaiting replacement unit as one unit missing crucial parts which I have little confidence will arrive unscathed or missing parts itself.TLDR: Decent rack system that's fairly easy to assemble but most likely will arrive damaged or missing parts if you don't select to ship in Amazon box. Company needs much much much better packaging to avoid issues and returns.

Nice shelf, package torn up but shelf is good.Easy to put together and perfect for my uses.These things used to be built better larger heavier frame material, larger thicker shelves.But times change this works for now.

These are greatand sturdy. Little tedious pouring it together because the beams will pop out of place when moving on to next shelf. Definitely need rubber mallet or just use a towel so you won't damage the metal during assembly. I ordered 3 and couldn't be more pleased.
