Briggs & Stratton 499612 Ring Gear

IT fits perfectly and performs as you would expect from OEM!

This gear is perfect in form, fit and function for replacing my Craftsman V-Twin B&S engine’s ring gear. It was supplied with flat-head screws and elastic lock nuts for mounting to the flywheel. (The original rivets will have to be removed from the flywheel.) It works great…like new.

Gear fit and worked great. Original rivets gave to be ground down flush and driven out before install. The bottom of the ring gear is beveled to assist starter engagement and needs to be labeled Bottom. Bolts are counter sunk and gear is not. Counter sink the holes before use.

Nice fit. A decent amount of work. Watch youtube to save time installing.

Have a mower I’m repairing, replaced starter motor. Apparently “universal starter mower” doesn’t mean that.Lesson 1: get correct starter motor, they have different teeth countLesson 2: flywheel rings on some models are plastic. So when lesson 1 is learned the hard way, you can have an inexpensive repair to OEM equipment.That said. Original flywheel mounted with rivets. “Ain’t nobody got time for that” on replacing it.OEM meet Mr angle grinder with cut off disk. 2 minutes and all 10 fingers later, OEM plastic ring and rivets removed.This ring comes with replacement screws and nylon lock nuts. Crank em down, replace flywheel, and you’re cranking harder than a coke addict on payday.

Put in end of last fall. Hardly used. It's not dead mid summer. Didn't even last a whole mowing season.

Original is riveted on so prepare yourself for a bit of a challenge to get the rivets off the original part other then that installed perfectly and meshes perfectly with starter big difference from the worn out gear I had on the machine. Starts up like a new machine after install.
