I have not used the fountain pen, however, Cross stands behind their products. My set has lasted me a lifetime. (that would be 50 years since I graduated from high school) I recently purchased a Cross pen for my granddaughter to take to the University of Kansas. She is a writer.

Yes, the Century II is the thicker version. The Century II specs are:Width: 0.36 inches / 9.1 mmLength: 5.39 inches / 137 mmWeight: 1.01 oz / 29 gramsThe Classic Century pen specs are, Width: 0.3 inches / 7.6 mmLength: 5.23 inches / 133 mmWeight: 0.57 oz / 16 gramsBy the numbers it doesn't seem like much difference but holding the pen it is noticeable difference.

Q: Does golden parts discolor/fade over time?

I purchased the silver/chrome pen. However, I've had their gold pens for a long time and they have not discolored.
