Q: At what noise level does the safety kicks on?

The electronic part isn't automatic. Putting them on is the safety. Once on your head you can turn on the electronic part to activate the omni directional mics so you can hear around you better. The internal speakers won't let the noise from the mics go above the danger zone. These are fantastic ear protection. They are worth the money imo. plus they double as headphones if you want.

Q: Is there a case for this set? Or do i have to buy that it separately

Standard cardboard box it comes with. Suggest a pelican or plano hare case

Q: Does this work with both input and output for radio or does it just let you hear it?

I think it does if you purchase the mike attachment.

Q: Can you wear a boonie hat with these?

You can wear anything with it has adjustable strap for the top of your head whether you wear hat or not
