Meets SHRM’s BoCK targets nicely & highlights critical, need-to-know topics & concepts very well!
So far, my impression of the written guide is very good. And when I say so far, that means I’ve read through about 85% of the paperback study guide and have played around with quite a few practice questions and flashcards in the guide’s online resources. Sandra did a great job of meeting SHRM’s BoCK targets in content and context and highlighting critical, need-to-know topics and concepts.Although it is designed and presented to align with SHRM's BoCK, which is good through February 15th (that’s the last day to test in the 2021 Window 2 Testing: 12.1.21 – 2.15.22), it is STILL a really good, very affordable, primary learning resource for SHRM-CP & SHRM-SCP exam candidates who are targeting a spring/summer ‘22 or beyond exam date. In fact, I think this is a great and economical resource for PHR & SPHR candidates to add to their exam prep arsenal for a supplemental learning resource and more practice tests. Where the PHR & SPHR follow HRCI’s BoK, their HR Capabilities Model, and their respective exam content outlines, SHRM’s BASK covers almost the same topics and concepts. However, it will have less emphasis on U.S.-based regulatory compliance and practices and more focus on HR in the global context. HRCI covers globalization in their PHR & SPHR exams but does not as much as SHRM's CP & SCP. HRCI has specialty credentials for HR practitioners who work with globalized orgs/MNE, the GPHR, and the PHRi & SPHRi for HR pros practicing outside of the U.S.This study guide’s online resources and features seem pretty standard to other online cert prep learning platforms. You can take tests in practice or simulator mode and review your progress. Practice questions and rationales in the paperback guide and in the online portal are "very good," "good," and "decent," according to my ranking scale, with well over 90% being very good to good quality. You will find many links in the study guide to additional learning resources for extra support on some of the more complex topics. There aren’t many strong DEI SJT’s among the questions in this study guide or its online test bank (that I’ve seen thus far). That is because DEI was just promoted up to a Behavior Competency for the May 1st and beyond exam content. In Sandra’s past publications, I’ve known her to supply updates or additional information to the online resources accompanying her study guides. She may just do that with this latest publication as well. To access the online learning resources for this guide, you have to be the first purchaser (it can’t be second-hand/borrowed) and register your study guide online following instructions at the bottom of page XXV in the introduction section. When accepting the terms, I noted that access to the online resources is for one year from the date of registration.I cannot find a way to determine precisely how many practice questions are in the test question bank. I may have missed it on the portal, but that info isn’t in the study guide, descriptions on various book sales sites, or the publisher’s description on their website. So, I may just shoot Sandra a message and ask. I think it could include more flashcards, but those included are pretty good; plus, there are tons of great and free resources for flashcards out there.Overall, I consider this guide a very good and economical primary learning resource for independent learners for the CP or SCP. It caters to multiple learning styles fairly well, provides quality content and context, is written in a style that speaks to HR practitioners (super important), and it does have an attractive price point. This guide will serve you well, even though it does not have the exam content updates outlined in SHRM's new BASK for May 1st and beyond testers. However, you will need to pay close attention to the key changes outlined in SHRM’s BASK, like diversity and inclusion being promoted to a Behavioral Competency, bringing along equity with it, so anticipate SJT questions for those concepts starting 5.1.22 and beyond. Learning and Development and Employee and Labor Relations also experienced some updates, so be sure to review the BASK for conducting some quick research and review of any foreign-to-you concepts, terms, or topics from those sections. And note exam time and number of questions have changed from 160 questions in 4 hours to 134 questions in 3hrs and forty minutes.

Used for SHRM CP
This was the only study material I used for my SHRM CP exam earlier this year. It was helpful and is packed full of information. I passed. One downside: sometimes the writing in this book is a bit clunky and doesn’t make sense. I had to Google concepts or definitions to help me figure out what Reed was trying to say and the point she was trying to get across.

Easy Simple Read, Helpful Practice Exams
This was a great review source. It was fairly short chapters each easy to read and digest. The practice exams and online site were very helpful. Passed my SHRM-CP using this and a little extra on the areas I was not as good in from the practice exams.

Best used study guide
I bought several study guides and if you are going to buy one, its this one. It has in depth information and its questions are the best ones. I was able to pass the SHRM-CP exam in May 2022 and this was the main reason why

Very Helpful
This guide was very helpful in bringing all of the information together. I passed my SHRM-SCP this week and this guide was the last piece of my study materials.

Not useful for SCP
Very good reference book, but probably more help for the CP exam.
