Best adhesive tape out there
I purchased this tape in hopes that it would hold my ring doorbell on the exterior of my home. I didn’t have a doorbell hookup and I’m not permitted to drill into the brick so I figured I would give this a try — turns out it has held up better then anything I’ve ever seen! I put the adhesive tape around the edges of my ring 4 years ago and it’s still holding strong. Through all the snow, rain, wind, heat, etc. this tape is the best adhesive out there!

Excellent tape to keep around the house
I was surprised by the lack of information about the tape on Amazon's listing. For more information about the tape than you care to know, search for "3m 4011 datasheet" - 3M has one that talks about it's construction, adhesive tests, and bondline elongation results among other things. As far as load goes, the packaging recommends 4 inches of tape for every pound it's supposed to hold and can be used to mount up to a total of 5 pounds. The packaging also warns that the tape "may cause damage if removed" and "if you must remove the mounted object, insert a knife behind [it] and carefully cut the tape between the adhesive surfaces".The tape is 0.045 inches thick (almost 1 mm), so depending on what you use it for, there may be a bulge. It is kind of a pain to remove the red protective layer, so if you need to fit it in a tight spot, peel of a corner first before placing it.I've used this tape a few times and have been very pleased with it. I've used to attach a Oxo SteeL Kitchen Tool and Utensil Rack to a metal backsplash (where I couldn't screw into it) and I've also used it to mount surge protectors to the underside of desks to move it out of the way. I'm sure there are hundreds of other good uses for it, so I plan to keep a roll of it around the house. It's almost as useful as super glue, just less permanent and it isn't as much of a pain to clean up.UPDATE (7/13/2011): I've been using this to mount the tool rack for over six months now. It does work, however the load I'm putting on it is too high and it causes the tape to creep. After about 3-4 weeks it sags enough to drop the untensils. I'm not going to dock a star because I knew I'm exceeding the load (I have several pounds on a square inch.).I've recently discovered 3M's 4929 Very High Bond Tape. This stuff is ridiculously strong (110 psi shear). I've used it at work in high stress environments at low temperatures (-20C) and it didn't budge. This tape is (currently) not on Amazon and has to be ordered through an industrial supply company like McMaster-Carr ($20 a roll). I think I'm going to try replacing the 3M 4011 tape with this and see if it does any better.

Great for mounting on bricks
I've used this mounting tape to hang my solar motion LED lights on my brick walls outside of my house since Sept 2017. I just use strips around all 4 sides of the light on the back of the lights. And through the rain, snow, sun and elements no issues with the lights falling off in that time. So much easier than drilling into the bricks. I had to remove one of the originally mounted lights recently as it was malfunctioning, but no issues removing. Just need to pry up from one side to break the seal. I was able to pry up by hand but may be easier with a flat head screwdriver.I recently purchased additional lights to mount but ran out of this tape and needed something same day, so I went the local big box store to get some but they didn't have this version. All they had was the Scotch Extremely Strong Indoor/Outdoor black colored tape (30lb rating). I didn't read the fine print and it wasn't meant for rough surfaces and the lights fell down 2 days later. After that, I learned my lesson and ordered more of this gray Scotch Heavy Duty Exterior Mounting Tape (5lb rating). Works great, just wish they offered it in a larger roll size.

Works.
This is the only mounting tape I have found that will actually hold items against smooth plastic. The other ones I tried, including ones from Gorilla, failed within varying amounts of time from minutes, hours, or a few days (at max.) Even when the surface was cleaned and prepared with 90% rubbing alcohol, the other tapes just would not hold. And I wasn't trying to mount heavy objects, either. A plastic USB hub that likely weighed no more than an ounce or two, using a 3-inch strip. After trying all those other various "super heavy duty" mounting tapes which claimed to hold heavy loads, and be able to stick to plastic, I tried this one as a last shot. And it worked. I was able to mount the same kind of hub against smooth plastic, even an unprepared surface, and it adhered strongly. When I had to reposition it, it took force to remove it.If there is a downside, it's that the bottom (the side you see as you unroll a piece) isn't very sticky itself. It obviously can't be as sticky as the other, protected side otherwise you'd have trouble unrolling it. But if you handle it and touch the bottom more than a few times, it quickly loses its adhesive properties and will not form a proper bond. Same thing happens if you try to reposition it multiple times. Only unroll a piece if you're going to use it immediately. Measure off a piece, cut it, then apply it and press firmly for at least 30 seconds. Afterwards unpeel the protective layer off the other side (this can be difficult) and apply to the surface you desire, once again pressing firmly for at least 30 seconds.I cannot attest to the holding power in outside conditions, as I've only used it indoors.
