I'd say so. You need opposable thumbs to remove the lid. I don't know how big your cat is but mine was not strong enough to push it over. I probably still wouldn't leave it in a spot that a cat would have access to. Hope that helps. Also, wrap the light bulb in saran wrap or the water will burn it out.

You may want to consider using an aquarium air check valve (-- search on "aquarium check valve" for examples). This will allow air to be pumped into the tank, yet prevent water from flowing back to the air pump in the event of a power failure or whatever. The pump could then be hidden anywhere outside of the tank.

It uses Tetra Whisper XS filter cartridges and we recommend replacing the cartridge every 3 to 4 weeks depending on the number of fish and amount of daily feeding. If your room temperature is between 70 degrees and 78 degrees and does not fluctuate then a heater is not required, if your fish need a warmer tank then yes, you should add a heater.
