Direct replacement on a California Air tools aluminum air compressor
I own a California Air tools aluminum air compressor. I've been pushing it hard for the last few years and the motor was going out on it. A new compressor is about twice as much as just replacing this motor, so I gave it a try. Took about 2 hours to get it installed. It works so good now.Pros:Upgraded model from the old model with the same model number. Better thicker wiring and larger sized capacitor.Cons:I wish they sold an o-ring/gasket kit for this. I took apart my old motor that failed. The gaskets went bad. I think if I could have replaced those, i would have got it working again.

Not Good.
Avoid this replacement motor at all costs. The motor did not work. All the wire ends had clearly been connected to something prior. The parts were just loosely thrown into the box and the bags they were in had all been opened prior or were still open. The motor itself was not of the same quality as the original and not assembled well. Loose fittings, wrong fittings, you name it. I'm not even sure I received all of the correct parts. The capacitor size was not sufficient in my opinion... much smaller than the original. There were also no instructions provided or documentation. My first California Air Compressor was fantastic but now I will never buy or recommend another product from them again.

It arrived, but only barely. Packaging is cut-rate and you will likely have some type of damage.
This pump is a good candidate to replace the Eagle 6500 series compressor pump when it fails. While it doesn't have as high of CFM, it is as quiet and is a direct bolt-on replacement. This unit is labeled California Air, so I am assuming it's from their distributor. My issue is that the box was damaged and the parts were loosely tossed into the box. The capacitor was completely crushed. I will have to make due with an existing unit.Really terribly packaged for how heavy it is.

This thing is quiet and fairly powerful
I replaced a burnt up motor and pump on a 25 year old craftsman compressor with this motor and pump. It took a little fabrication to mount it on the old 30 gallon I believe upright tank. I got it installed and plugged it in and it was so quiet that that I thought it wasn’t working correctly. I have an aluminum I believe 25 gallon forklift propane tank inline as a pressure tank in my system and it only took a little over 2 minutes to fill both tanks from 100 to 120 psi. I think I’m really going to like this thing. Hopefully it will last despite being made in China. The only bad thing I have to say at this point is that the run capacitor should be mounted on the pump and wired.

Great Replacement Unit
Great replacement unit. Just be careful when you plum it to your tank. It may be a little different. Just pay attention to the intake and exhaust. Once you figure that out it works great and is very quiet.

Not sufficient
Minor shipping damage. No product specifications/diagram/capacitor mount. Claims 125 max pressure. After leak check ran for hour and never got above 65psi in 40gallon tank.

good product. No installation instructions included (this should be a requirement).
overall good product.- considering the price, it should have some installation paperwork.- No installation instructions included (this should be a requirement).- poor shipping practices. shipped in an oversized box without a cushion or padding- Check your unit immediately after delivery for possible cracks or broken parts.

Nice compact package with a good CFM rating.
I bought a small electrical box to put the capacitor that comes with it and a contactor, to start and stop it, in. It's seems about as loud as my 2hp belt driven compressor. I love the compactness of the compressor especially compared to my belt driven unit. There is also no oil carry over into your pneumatic system. I'm not sure if there is a possibility of any particulate carry over in this compressor that would warrant a line filter but I don't think so. I remember that older oil-less compressor's used graphite as at least part on the piston rings. Even though I run it in an open pneumatic system I added a 60 psi relief valve and a high pressure switch for added safety.
