Best product for filling in bare patches on lawn
Ez Seed did as promised! Within 2 weeks I saw several new grass sprouts and by 1 month about 75% of the dead dry spots had filled in. I did the first application in early May, and by today (June 30th) almost all of my lawn has completely regrown. The climate where I live is very dry (Northern Nevada), so keeping the lawn alive is a yearly battle. This time, I put in a bit of extra effort before laying down the seeds. I got an electric dethatcher, which ripped out large weeds and rustled up the bare dirt about 2 inches deep. That allowed the seed to really burrow into the dirt, instead of just sitting on top.I tried to follow the instructions on the Ez Seed container to water daily, although admittedly I did end up skipping 2 days in a row early on. Amazingly, the seedlings still sprouted.Three weeks after laying down the Ez Seed, I looked for any remaining dry patches and used a metal rake to remove portions of old dead grass which were smothering these areas. I also used a manual aerator on those stubborn spots, and then applied more seed. It’s now been 6 weeks and I feel like I have a lawn again!!I would definitely suggest waiting 2 weeks after seeding before mowing, so the little sprouts have a chance to develop. At my house, grass grows at ridiculously varying rates – in areas that get full sun, it grows about 2” in 2 weeks. Areas where it’s shaded by a giant pyracantha bush, or by sections of the house, it grows almost 12” in 2 weeks! I have to adjust the height setting on my mower to accommodate this, but ended up with a fairly even surface.I did get a giant portion of broadleaf weeds in the especially dry areas, about 3 weeks after seeding, but that’s to be expected for such barren ground. I target sprayed them with Spectracide Weed & Grass Killer, making sure to not get any on the surrounding new grass. It took care of about 70% of the weeds, and I continue to target spray any new ones that pop up. Just make sure if you use Spectracide, you don’t use a wide-angle sprayer – you want to target each individual weed, not the surrounding grass. As a side note, I would also recommend Scott’s Turf Builder Tall Fescue Mix – When I ran out of the EZ seed, I filled in remaining patches with that, and it worked great as well. Highly recommend Scott’s products, and I will definitely be keeping EZ Seed on hand for any dry patches that need filling!!

Crab grass... the uncomfortable type of "grass"
I have crab grass that's been filling up our entire backyard ever since we bought our home seven years ago. Crab grass grows fast and is an invasive weed. Because it's weed, I learned that you can slowly kill crab grass by watering less often and deeper into the soil so that only good grass' roots can get water. With that in mind, I wanted to put that knowledge to the test by ripping out some large portions of crab grass from the back yard. (TIP: water the soil a bit so it's easier to rip the crab grass out)Once the ground was bare soil, I loosened it up a bit and pulled out any remaining crab grass/dead weed. Next, I sprinkled this Scotts seed (Tall Fescue grass) onto a small section to see what would happen. NOTHING GREW. I was disappointed. Then I read the instructions on the packaging:1. Spread the seeds/fertilizer into the ground2. Loosen/turn the soil3. Water daily as needed to keep the soil moist for the first 2 weeksI changed my sprinkler to water every 2 days for 5 minutes. End result? Grass grew after a week, and now it has increasingly become fuller! See photos for the results!Once the grass has grown acceptably, I will change the sprinkler system to water less frequently again (but deeper through cycle soaking) in order to starve the crab grass weed of water and to help the new grass establish deeper roots.SUMMARY: water often in the first 2 weeks to help sprout the new grass. Once it's established, water less frequently (but cycle soak) so the new grass grows deeper roots.

Missing bag
Product is great except I only received three of the four bags I paid for…no real good way to get it fixed as Amazon directs you to Scott’s website which isn’t helpful. Oh wellUPDATE, missing bag came a day later so all good!

Time will tell. Still not germinating
I’m just not having luck with this product. This is my 3rd purchase with fair results. I even used Scott’s lawn soil to promote germination. It’s been over two weeks with daily showers and still no luck.

Does not work
I had my gardener put this down in a large area where he removed a bush. I then put it in about 30 small holes that we made by squirrels digging up my lawn, and an area around my mailbox that the handyman dug up to fix my maibox post.I faithfully watered it, per the directions. It takes ALOT of water due to the expanding mulch. But watered I did. It's been 2 full weeks. There has been absolutely no new growth whatsoever. Now I still have the large brown area from the bush, the mailbox and all the holes, my water bill ( the town I live in owns the water company and we call it liquid gold, but to water the large area, over and over, and fact that it just keeps absorbing water due to the expand mulch - I probably spent 20$ on water), and I'm out the money.I had read reviews before that said the same thing. I should have listened and just put down grass seed. Now I have to leave town for a month, don't have time to water everyday and will have the big spot on my lawn from the bush, all the rest, for at least 6 more weeks.I take pride in my lawn, this has been an epic fail. I'd strongly advise anyone reading this NOT to buy this product.

Amazing results lawn grew just as promised!
I bought Scott’s EZ Seed Patch based on a ChatGPT recommendation, and I couldn't be happier! The product worked exactly as promised—I followed the simple instructions: removed dead grass, scratch the soil, spread the seed, and watered twice a day. In just 2-3 weeks, new grass started growing! It was easy to use and delivered great results. I was so impressed that I ordered a bigger bag to cover the rest of my backyard. If you're looking for an effective and hassle-free way to repair your St Augustine lawn, this is it! Highly recommend!
