Ahti knives are manufactured in Kauhava, Finland, which has a long and rich history of being known for knife making. The Ahti knives are made by Reino Kamppila and his son, who operate a fourth-generation family business of knife making. Theirs is a smaller shop, but they produce knives of excellent quality and workmanship. The knives and their leather sheathes are works of beauty, and are visually appealing as well as satisfyingly functional. As with most Scandinavian knives, the handles are made from curly birch, sanded and stained. The fittings on the knives are polished brass, and there are plastic inserts in the sheathes to protect both the sheath and the hand, as these knives are quite sharp and could easily slice through both if inserted incorrectly into the sheath. The belt loops aren't attached directly to the sheathes, but rather by a small metal ring, which lets the sheath dangle and swivel to make it easier to move and sit with the knife on your belt. The Vaara ("Forested Hill") has a good-sized blade at almost 4", and the full-sized handle is shaped at both ends to provide a firm grip and would work well even while wearing gloves or mittens. This version of the Vaara has a carbon steel blade.Below are the detailed measurements of this knife. A knife worth purchasing and its quality is unmatched!
I bought this knife for my wife as a Christmas present. I know that the Puukko knife is world renown for its craftsmanship, quality and sharpness. When it arrived my wife opened the plain cardboard box to see a gorgeous knife and sheath. She gasped with excitement. I was not disappointed with the knife. It was everything I knew it would be. The knife is beautiful, razor sharp and easy to grasp even for her small hand. The sheath was equally beautiful and functionable. Perfect to attach to her belt to be carried whenever she walks in the woods with her dogs as we have wolves and bears here where we live. As a US Navy SEAL I appreciate a high quality knife. I am very pleased with the purchase and highly recommend it to anyone wishing for a knife that is both aesthetically beautiful and very useful for hunting. The price of the knife was very reasonable and worth every dollar! A very satisfied customer and wife! Thank you!

The most beautiful functional knife I've ever owned.
100% enjoy my carbon steel Mora's but wanted a "pretty" yet functional traditional puukko. Looked at a bunch of manufacturers before deciding on the Ahti Varrapuukko. What a great choice! This knife is awesome in every regard. The carbon blade is a very useful length, is a full 1/8" thick, and arrived scary sharp. The spine is flat, sharp edged, and rough so am certain it will easily light up a ferro rod. The curly birch handle is beautifully figured and fits my hand great. The brass bolster is well fitted and a very useful addition to the design. The sheath fits perfect and as a bonus comes as a solidly constructed belt loop dangler. I could not be happier. The price is very fair for such an excellent knife. Athi manufactures the same knife for Kellam with the addition of an SPT blade which Kellam markets as the Wolverine. I preferred going direct to Athi to get a traditional carbon blade and also prefer the more robust Athi dangler belt sheath. Either would be a great addition to your collection.
