I would say this size I Have a 10 year old and it fits good. Size 14 was too small for her. Size 16 is perfect

My daughter is 6, but the size of a 6 year old,46 inches and 49 lbs and I ordered size 6 and they fit comfortably and not too big. I hope this helps they are not tight nor loose but they fit her body well they did not shrink like others do after a wash either. I hope this helps I would think 8 may have been too loose.
