I’ve always kept Nu-Stock on hand for 20+ years
Since I first used Nu-Stock over 20 years ago, I was so impressed with it, I’ve kept it on hand ever since. I’ve had great results on both dogs and horses. This review will be primarily focused on application to dogs but I have used it on a mare that had a good size cut and once it healed I could barely see where the injury was. The results were not what I expected and I was truly impressed!General Important Information:Nu-Stock contains no steroids and is non toxic.Effective on all skin disorders, deep wounds, cuts, and eliminates certain growths. It’s great for hair growth even on older wounds.I recall a horseman once said, “Nu-Stock will grow hair on a quarter” Well, not literally of course but it really does work great for growing the hair back! It’s been trusted by professional canine and equine enthusiasts for many years and commonly used on show animals due to how effective it is.Nu-Stock stops itching, eliminates soreness, and promotes rapid healing. It’s impressive how quickly this gets the hair to grow back!Nu-Stock is also effective for non-specific dermatoses and hair loss. It’s also labeled for use of ear problems and can be applied down into the ear canal.Just a few of it’s many uses I have personally used it for over the past 2+ decades with great results include hot spots, “puppy acne”, cuts, scrapes, hair loss on elbows from licking the elbows or pressure sores, and anywhere hair loss occurs due to an irritation of the skin. The dogs also seem to get immediate soothing relief from the application of Nu-Stock.-Check out the Nu-stock website for before and after photos and complete product information- The website indicates it can also be used on cattle after dehorning, other livestock, even cats.Contains only 3 nontoxic ingredients: 73% Sulfer, 25% Mineral Oil, and 2% pine oil.It stays on the skin well and should be applied every 3 days.Every 3 days is the frequency of application instructions for both horses and dogs.Nu-Stock tastes bitter (I haven’t personally tasted it haha but according to the manufacturer of this product combined with the reaction of dogs that do initially attempt to lick it off I’ll assume it doesn’t taste very pleasant) so I’ve never had issues with a dog licking it off as with many other ointments or topical treatments.I keep another topical application on hand that is designed for similar outcomes (I’ll do a review of that product as well) but I will say that Nu-Stock is my top go to for an all around topical application for wounds and general skin disorders. For best results: You will want to shake the tube well before using to help mix the mineral and pine oils in the sulfur. I also recommend kneading the tube thoroughly before applying to really mix it well. It should be the consistency of a thick but easily applied paste. Once you start to get towards the last of the product in the tube and it gets to a point that it starts to get too dry, just add a small amount of mineral oil (baby oil) as needed to the tube and knead it in until it returns to the right consistency. As far as smell: I personally do not think Nu-Stock smells bad but it does have a rather strong smell initially. I don’t find the smell to be an offensive odor but note that it does have a smell to it. It seems to only be during initial application. It’s a yellowish color paste so it easy to see where it’s been applied and when it needs to be reapplied.I sometimes wear nitrile gloves when I apply it but sometimes I do not. I would say that’s a personal preference with this particular product. You will want to avoid getting this into the eyes (both yours and your animals)It’s also made in the USA 🇺🇸Please note: As a canine professional, I will only recommend and give positive reviews on products that we personally use at Crossroads Canine. Due to valuing honesty and integrity, we will NEVER give a dishonest review even for monetary gain.We have enough experience with using Nu-Stock to form a solid opinion on the product.I highly recommend Nu-Stock

Helps the skin and hair
Like the results ,of hair growth.Dislike the tube because the lid leak and is oily.Product is smelly so I put the fan on and a room air purifier . Easier to put product on dog outside so area can air out and dry quicker on dog. So that the dog bedding doesn’t get all stinked up and stained.Tried several other product, this works if you read the instructions and can find a way to get pass the smell.

Effective but Messy and Stinky
When my dog developed a hot spot on his hip and had chewed the area until it was raw and scabbing, I was desperate to find something to help. I applied this ointment hoping for a miracle cure, and the results were... mixed. On the positive side, it did seem to provide some relief. After application, my dog appeared less interested in chewing the affected area, which suggests it may have helped with the itching or discomfort. However, I can't definitively say it was a dramatic improvement - just a modest one.The biggest drawback is undoubtedly the smell. This ointment has an incredibly strong, unpleasant sulfur odor that lingers persistently. It's not a subtle scent - it's powerful and permeates everything it touches. I had to keep my dog wearing a cone to prevent him from licking it off (which is probably for the best given the ingredients).Be warned: this product transfers easily onto fabrics. If your dog typically lounges on furniture, you'll need to take precautions. I had to place towels and blankets anywhere my dog might sit or lie down because the ointment gets everywhere and leaves both stains and that distinctive smell behind. The consistency is thick and somewhat difficult to apply evenly, especially if your pet is squirming or uncomfortable. The 12 oz tube contains a generous amount - more than enough for multiple applications.Overall, while it may provide some therapeutic benefit, the overwhelming smell and messiness factor make this a product I'd use only as a last resort or in specific situations where I can isolate my pet from furniture and living spaces. There are likely more pleasant-smelling alternatives worth trying first.

People aren’t being dramatic
I read the reviews about how messy this was, but I didn’t realize it was so messy to the point where it isn’t usable. The ointment and liquid are separated, so when you try to use the product liquid just pours out and you can’t get to the ointment. Even if your try to stop it and put the twist top back on, it’ll continue to seep. Then you have rotten eggs residue where ever it lies. I had to put it in a sandwich bag for storage.

Dog
I used this on my dog’s back. She was itching herself raw and this helped to heal her skin. It smells kinda bad, and gets everywhere, but it worked! I had to keep a donut on her to prevent her from licking it.
