Worked great in China
Great product. We took this converter to Shanghai, China (May 2010) and it worked great. We stayed in a Chinese hotel, Motel 168, for 9 days and my wife used this converter constantly with her hairdryer. We also used it to charge up our Nintendo DS and an eBook reader. For the hairdryer we turned the switch to "Hi" and for the other electronics we turned it to "lo." Remember to do that or you might destroy some of your electronics if you have it set to "Hi."We were able to plug this converter right into the Chinese outlets. No adapter needed. Our laptop did not need this converter. We plugged our laptop into the outlets using an adapter, no converter needed.

Does Its Job: Simran1875 Watts International Travel Voltage Converter for 110V [Model #SM1875]
This small little converter [Model #SM1875] did its job without a problem. We needed to useit for our hair driers and, well, we were able to dry our hair. It's a good thing when you arevisiting an Asian country in the summer and it is 85 degrees with 75 percent humidity, everyday we were there.I found that the converter did run a bit warm but seemed to be no problem with repeateduse. I could still handle the converter after it was used. Definitely unplug the device afterevery use though. Good idea in any case.So I can easily give this little Voltage Converter 5 stars for doing it's job without a problem.Well worth the cash to keep my electronics from frying even though it is fuse protected.Who wants to go looking for a fuse in a foreign country?

Do You Really Need A Converter Like This?
-Having gone through part of the reviews here, I guess some users might have misunderstood the application of this converter. If you want to use your ELECTRONIC devices operated with a rechargeable battery (such as your iPhone, cell phone, ipod, ipad, laptop, digital camera) in a foreign country, you don't need to bother, because nearly all these electronic products are designed today to be completed with a battery charger suitable for a voltage range from 100V to 240V; in other words, people travel around with these electronic items, so these items should work properly at any voltage anywhere in the world. Whatever you have and wish to use in a foreign country, just carefully check the marking on the battery charger about the voltage rating ... if the voltage rating is printed or embossed as "100-240V", then don't worry, you can use your devices without such a converter. Another thing you should check is if you will need a plug adapter for that country, because there are quite many types of power plugs in the world. For example, if your laptop's battery charger has a U.S. type power plug, you cannot plug it directly into a wall socket in Australia or in the U.K., since the pins and the slots do not match.I also brought with me two laptop's, a cell phone and an SRL digital camera from China (at 220/240V) and have been using them here in the U.S. (at 110V) for almost half a year ... everything is okay as perfectly as they worked in China, because the battery chargers can work at any voltage from 100V to 240V. In this case, I only bought a plug adapter, so that the 3-flat-pins plugs (Chinese standard plug) of these battery chargers could be inserted to the wall socket here in the U.S.However, if you want to use an ELECTRICAL item operated under alternating current (like a hair dryer, steam iron), you will need such a converter, so that your electrical item for 110V can be used at foreign voltage 220/240V. If you don't, your electrical item will get burned from voltage break-down. Some products sold in the U.S. are completed with a rechargeable battery (electrical toothbrushes, for example), but the voltage rating of the battery charger is subject to 110V, meaning that the battery can be charged at 110V only. So if you need to use such an electrical item outside the U.S. at 220/240V, such a converter will be necessary.I ordered this converter for my parents who are going to travel in China, as they'd like to bring a water flosser with them and that is absolutely an electrical item. I received this in a good condition, but couldn't find a better manual than the brief instruction on the box. The quality should be okay as it has adequate weight. Hope my parents would say yes to its quality after they use it.Update on 04-28-11:According to my parents, this converter does not work with a water flosser in China. It is too weak, and there is no water flush generated from the water flosser even at the 'HIGH' position of the converter. It was a waste of money. I would not recommend this product.Something you should know:1). This listing is misguiding people to buy an unnecessary accessary for their cell phone, iPod and camera ("Ideal for Hair dryers, iPods, Phones, Camera" ... the exact wording from the listing);2). By using some vague description, this listing makes people think that the converter can be used with items working at 50W-1875W, but in fact it is mostly subject to <50W;3). When people realize this converter does not work during the trip, some of them especially those on a longer journey for 30+ days will not have the chance to return the converter to the seller after they are back to home.

Works for low-current items
We took this converter to Europe (Spain, France, and UK) and Turkey recently. I only plugged into it an energizer AA/AAA battery charger (that's the only device I own that is not 110V/220V). The converter worked well and charged the batteries without any trouble (on the LOW setting) and it did not get hot at all.Now for the only drawback that took off 1 star: It is rare to find a plug which accepts this converter as almost all plugs in Europe are are recessed (about an inch inside the wall). That means I had to plug this converter into an adapter which is compatible with the walls (see http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001MGUB9Q which I got lucky with as it was a supersaver shipping item when I got it). Now, although the converter does not feel heavy at all, when plugged into an adapter, it tends to pull down on it so that both would fall or get detached from the outlet. I had to resort to creative ways to hold them up attached to the wall by letting them lean on something. Anyway, besides that, I had no trouble, but I really wish the maker would install better plugs on the device.Just to be clear, even if you find non-recessed outlets, this converter has plugs only for European countries other than the UK. You would need an Europe-UK adapter for the UK since the converter would function properly, but would need to be plugged in to UK style outlets. In summary, I'd say have this product WITH a plug adapter at all times.

worked great in paris. TAKE THE EXTRA PIECE.
This worked great for us in Paris. Small, inexpensive, didn't overheat despite constant use. Just what I wanted.Note: this comes with an extra piece, not pictured anywhere. I thought it was a bonus adapter, which I wouldn't need for my purposes since I was going to need the converter. I took it anyway. Glad I did! It's actually an extension piece to circumvent and reach the recessed 3-pronged outlets so you can use this 2-pronged device. Take it with you!
