How do the shelves attach to the brackets do they just 'sit' on them?

Yes you can screw the shelves, the support brackets have predrilled holes.

Where can i find shelves to sit on top of these brackets? The actual piece of wood? I can't find it on Amazon...

We decided to have the shelves slightly deeper than the bracket which works well for us. We used 12 inch deep shelves (300mm) from our local builders merchant.
