This unit was a replacement for the traditional hydrometer. This is as accurate as the hydrometer and significantly faster.

Works well, a little cheap
This refractometer feels a little cheap, but it seems to measure alcohol content well enough for my use. Note, this is not an electronic device. You put some of the liquid on a glass plate and close the cover, then look through the end and read the alcohol content on a scale. While it doesn't require any electricity and will probably work a lot longer than an electronic meter, it is not going to be as accurate as an electronic device.

Very accurate.
I was truly surprised how accurate it was. I compare it to my hydrometer for proof and trails and also to store bought alcohol so I know the proof before I even start. You can get down to the exact number because it's super easy to read. If you have a hard time reading it try using a light or stand outside where the sun is shining.

Nothing short of magic
No idea how it works but boy does it work! I just started this hobby and this is so much better than trying to take a spot reading than using a graduated cylinder and a hydrometer. Just as accurate too from what I've seen. This should be one of the main tools in the box for any distiller. Super cheap money, and of course... Magic! Just buy it!

Read the title close this is for SPIRITS ONLY. Don't buy it for beer/wine/mead.
The device works just fine but the scale is absolutely useless. You may be able to calibrate to distilled water and pull a accurate reading off scotch, but if you're looking to use this for beer/wine/mead then look elsewhere. The refractometer is meant to be used to find your specific gravity or brix. Things like proteins, yeast, sugar and anything else that refracts like (even color) with comepletely throw a reading out the door. This is why the product is scaled for distilled spirits. And since its scaled for %V/V you cant use it at all for specific gravity. I won't falt the product but had I been more informed when i made the purchase I would have never ordered this.

Accurate Reads
I’ve seen reviews that questioned whether this was accurate and I have to say it was accurate on every test sample I did. I was also pleasantly surprised to find mine in perfect calibration when it came out of the box.
