Exploring BeagleBone: Tools and Techniques for Building with Embedded Linux

Very well laid out book, many examples in various programming languages.
This is the beaglebone bible. Anyone wanting to understand how to program in C/C++/Java/JavaScript/Node.js/pearl/python/bash and use a beaglebone the way it was meant to be used needs this book as a reference. I got my information to program my beaglebone black off the internet through support forums for years. Had I known this book contains everything you need to know about running the PRUs and the many I/Os on the beaglebone, I would of got this the day I bought my beaglebone. The professor gives many examples in various programming languages so you aren’t just stuck trying to make code on “bone script” like a lot of the internet examples show.Do not hesitate to get this if you are on the fence about this book. Dr. Molloy, the author, is actively teaching in the ECE department at Dublin City University. This means the man is very knowledgeable on the subject and you cannot get any better reference than a university teacher on these subjects.

Best book for beaglebone
If you are into working in beaglebone is a most have book. But also have huge sections and chapters dedicated to other topics related to writing C++ for embedded Linux, configuring your development environment, electronics, is dense is pack , is fun and very instructive , the autor is a very good teacher and the book show that, is well organized and walk you over every single chapter. Some of the new kernels changes for the beaglebone are not working as should and there is no answer to some of the problems.

Simply the best BeagleBone book yet written
The only thing I'd want is for it to cover BeagleBone AI and BeagleBone Blue. Otherwise, this book is the best resource for BeagleBone, period. It dives into hardware and software details with loads of examples. The associated website is extremely useful. I'd love a bit more theory for a full computer science course, but this book is already nicely sized and Embedded Linux Primer makes a nice companion if you are trying to build a course on embedded Linux.

Fantastic
Incredible resource for not only using the BeagleBone, including PRUs, but also general development on linux, including GIT. Only complaint is I wish it was updated for recent boards like the Blue or AI.

Better than the original.
Not simply rehashing the ideas of the old, this version gives new insights that are up to date and relevant. I would say that it even replaces the old text as there is no reason to go back to reference anything. Wish I had more time to practice some of the tutorials.

Stellar book, a must have
One star is missing because the paper quality is very bad compared to the first edition.

Great book.
The price is correct too. Don't know how these textbook manufacturers get off charging 200 for a texbook - with this paperback you'll learn tons about Embedded Linux and the Beaglebone for just a few dollars. Very fair price and great quality. Good binding too, pages dont fall out or anything.

Fantastic intro to programming and basic circuits
I have used Arduino for making/programming simple projects, but was finding the limits of the hardware and my programming skills. This book is brilliant - giving me a solid grounding in the beaglebone, coding and basic electronics. Looking ahead there are plenty of challenging projects in later chapters. I'm about a third of the way through, but I've no doubt by the end I'll have achieved my goal of constructing linux/C sensor platforms capable of logging at khz sampling rates. Each chapter is well thought out, in fact each paragraph is constructed with great care. I've tried working through a few books on embedded programming but never got to the end....often stuck at a point or just sheer boredom......but this book is great. Thoroughly recommended

1. You need 1st and 2nd editions. There are two ways of getting data from the PRU to Linux area
The first edition explains UIO (debian) , the second RPROC (Texas Instruments). UIO is the simpler and should be the faster.Amazon doesn't seem to understand that editions can differ substantially. It's not clear which edition I'm reviewing here.

I would say my money well spent.
I liked the topics covered in the book and the examples under each topic. They are very comprehensive. The breadth and the depth of the book is unparalleled. I appreciate Derek for taking time to write about alternative approaches and their pros and cons.

Esquina golpeada.
