Where's the serial number on the device? a serial is listed on the cert of inspection, but i see no number on my micrometer.

Why do you ask? In 50+ years of being a machinist i have never wondered where the serial number has been on any of my micrometers.

Where are these manufactured? Are they made in China?

I do not know where those were made, but! The piece that I bought has the inscription "Made in Japan" everywhere. It brought its certificate of inspection, One year warranty certificate, User's manual and others paper stuff in English/Japanese.

Can you confirm that the rotating thimble, or any other major component is made of plastic on this model as noted by one reviewer? Thanks!

The rotating thimble is metallic. The small safety lever is plastic. The small part where the ratchet is rotated is also plastic. As far as I know, Mitutoyo produce very high quality products this is a nice Micrometer. I bought one some time ago and I am very happy with my micrometer.
