Just thought I'd say for anyone curious since I couldn't find it anywhere in the product listing: This is a combined English AND German version. It has both languages on the box, but the pictures on the back of the box show German cards only and I was worried I had bought the wrong one. But inside the box is everything you'd need to upgrade the English or German versions of the base game. There are two complete sets of cards, one in each language and the tiles are all language independant since they have only symbols and no words.

I will be sending this back, it is completely unusable as the cards are smaller than the base game. Ridiculous mistake!

We've been playing and enjoying the base game of Eldorado, but for me, I felt it was "played out" and starting to be predictably repetitious. This expansion had breathed new life into the game, and I think it will take many, many plays before I get tired of this one. It's a lot more fun than just playing the original game. Highly recommended!

The cards are the small size of the older printing of the base game. I bought the newer version (which looks awesome) and I wish I had checked to see if the cards in this were the same size. They are not so I gotta sleeve everything. It was my own fault but hopefully this helps some others avoid the same disappointment 😊

Absolutely great expansion. The hexes in particular are something I will never play without. Highly recommend.

My wife and I really enjoy this expansion. We adore this game to be honest and this expansion helps add more things to worry about and new strategies to learn. If you enjoy the base game try this out!

If you don't have El Dorado buy it, we have over 200 board games and this one is by far my favourite. Superb range of play with so many combinations it's different every time. I've introduced it to several other people who love it to. Buy the base game, love it, then buy the 2 expansions. All together there are so many options to design a map and character cards to play with you mix it up every time. Board, pieces and cards are all high quality but if you love it I'd recommend the card sleeves as I've played it over 200 times and you can't help but wear them out.

Helden und Dämonen hatte ich mir voreilig gekauft, ohne das Basisspiel zu haben. Ich besaß zu dem Zeitpunkt nur die zweite Erweiterung. Als ich die Anleitung studierte stellte ich fest, dass man das Basisspiel benötigt. Theroretisch sollte es auch ohne das Basisspiel funktionieren allerdings wird sich das Spiel dann nicht mehr so flüssig Spielen.Gründe dafür sind:- Man hat nur das Startfeld vom Goldenen Tempel und somit wäre der Startpunkt gleichzeitig der Zielpunkt. Mit dem Basisspiel kann man schönere Strecken bauen.- Die Höhlenplättchen des Basisspiels würden fehlen, was das Höhlenforschen etwas unattraktiver macht, da man weniger Plättchen hat.- Der Kartensatz ist wesentlich geringer.- Die kleinen Karten Zwischenstücke fehlen, die das bauen von Karten flexibler machen.Zur Erweiterung und was ist neu:Die Erweiterung bringt frischen Wind in das Spiel, da man es jetzt mit Flüchen zu tun bekommt. Dieser Aspekt hat mich vorher etwas abgeschreckt, da ich dachte, dass die Flüche mit das Spiel etwas verderben. Meine Sorgen war aber unbegründet. Wer keine Lust auf Flüche hat kann diese auch fast komplett umgehen, außer bei Blockaden. Zusätzlich gibt es Höhlen Plättchen mit den man sich vor Flüchen schützen bzw. diese aufheben kann. Fluchfelder sind oft Abkürzungen und somit auch Taktisch nutzbar. Meine Freundin ist in diesem Aspekt knallhart und nimmt dafür Flüche oft in Kauf. Die Flüche an sich sind auch nicht so dramatisch und oft schnell überwunden.Weiterhin gibt vier Tiere, die in das Start Deck kommen und bei Bedarf mit einem stärkeren Boni abgeworfen werden können.Ziemlich cool sind auch die Helden. Jeder Spieler kann ich einen Helden in einem Lager auf der Karte einsacken. Dabei werden immer drei Karten vom verdeckten Stapel gezogen und ein Held kann gewählt werden. Es gibt natürlich unterschiedlich starke Helden doch bis auf wenige Ausnahmen sind diese sehr effektiv einsetzbar und der Umweg lohnt.Zu guter letzt kommen noch ein paar neue Spezialkarten (3) hinzu, die in den Markt integriert werden können. Der Geologe z.B ist sehr nützlich da er über Gebirge springen kann.Besonders gut gefällt mir das Spiel in Kombination mit der zweiten Erweiterung und dem Basisspiel. Dadurch gewinnt das Spiel Abwechslung und es gibt zahlreiche und interessante Kartenkombinationen.

Unfortunately I didn't get to play this expansion as this edition is for the older original base game with the smaller cards and different art work. The card size makes it incompatible with the base game.

I bought this game for a very special half-sister. In the product description it says "Playable as a stand alone game or together with El Dorado or Eldorado -The Golden Temples." So silly me, for thinking that I didn't need to buy the base game for double the price when I could just get this. On delivery of the package I opened it to find printed on the box "Base Game required to Play". Notably this is not visible in any pictures of the game on amazon either.I will, of course, remove this negative review if I'm able to subsequently get a refund with ease and my family's Christmas is not ruined.
