Metal Ring Stretcher Rathburn 6-1/2 Inches

Bought to try to stretch my wife's wedding rind as the local jewelers wouldn't do it (ring with band).I heated the ring until blood red with my MAP torch (while holding it with tweezers) and used a hammer to strike the wedge-plunger.Left to cool down a bit, and then used a punch from the other side to remove the plunger and release the ring.Took baby steps and tried for fit each time.Took 5 or 6 rounds (check for fit, heat up, place in the tool, expand a little bit, leave to cool) and it fit very well at a bit over 1 size bigger (from 6 to 7+).The ring is about 5 mm wide an d1 mm thick 18K.After stretching it needed some polish because of the torch.Tools used:- MegaCast Metal Ring Stretcher Rathburn 6-1/2 Inches,- MAP torch,- 250 gram hammer,- tweezers,- and a sturdy heat resisting surface (tiled floor, good thing as I dropped the red hot ring once).No damage on ring or the stretcher/plunger and even the laser engraving on the inside of the ring survived.Over all, simple and easy to use tool, I would recommend to anyone willing to try.Just keep in mind not to go overboard as the ring can break.

I was a bit skeptical about purchasing this, but after reading several reviews I decided why not give it a try. My Wedding Ring didn't fit my finger without using soap to put it on and even after getting it on it was tight. I was going to take the ring to a Jewelry, but wasn't sure who. So for about $15 I did it myself. It worked great for me and I don't have a simple band. Mine has 3 small diamonds set in it and that part is wider than the backside of the band. My ring fits great now and I'm happy I went for it!

It was well made and worth the money. I used it to size a gold ring. The item was easy to use and did the job easily. Just take your time and do it slowly until you get to the size you want.

I am a jewelry artist and have used this for about 5 months now.Pros, it's affordable, works pretty easily and enlarges the ring.Cons: it's extremely hard to get out or unstuck once you've enlarged the ring. It says size 6.5 and above however after using it for 5 months, it is now permanantly stretched out and you can no longer get anything smaller than an 8 on it at all. The other thing is you have no idea how many hits or how far down you need to hammer the pole, so you are literally just hoping for the best. The first 5 or 6 times, I enlarged the ring way too much and was screwed. Luckily for me, it wasn't someone else's wedding ring and I didn't ruin anybody's belongings but my own. There should be some kind of guide so you know how big you are stretching it.

I don't know if the seller understands what the components involved are for. The Nylon rest that comes with the ring stretcher is a vital component and it's incomplete.The stretcher is supposed to sit partly inside the nylon rest and the center of the rest has a hole for the metal rod while you're sizing.The issue is, the Nylon rest doesn't have the cutout as it should so the stretcher can rest partly inside it TO HOLD IT IN PLACE. It's pointless to have a hole in the Nylon rest if the rod doesn't reach all the way down into it to hold the stretcher in place. The only way this happens is if someone hammered the rod as far as it would go, which also defeats the purpose of the stretcher. Even then, you would have to use a hard surface to hammer the metal rod down far enough, then line up the rod and hole and HOPE you can hammer the rod the rest of the way through without missing and destroying the nylon rest altogether.If you search for the REAL stretchers these are trying to mimic, the nylon rest shows correctly and has a seat where the stretcher sits INSIDE.Second issue is the metal rod doesn't seem to be fully compatible with the stretcher. They do not fit well together but this is the least of the two by far.It can still be used but not as it's recommended and not without possibility of causing an injury. This is unsafe.

Over the last 47 years my fingers got a bit fatter. Could not comfortably slip on or remove my ring.In about 5 minutes, I stretched my gold wedding band to fit my ring finger perfectly. I used a plastic hammer and a bench vise to hold the mandrel while tapping the inner shaft loose after each 'stretch'. I did about 3 or 4 'stretches' to get it just right. Go carefully and try as you go. You don't want to make it too large.

I plan to fully wreck some of my random rings I picked up over the years for Pirate costuming. I live in the Cayman Islands and we have a huge Pirate festival every November. Sizing cool rings I find at the thriftstores is impossible without the right tools. I shall see how this tool works very soon.

Paid a little extra for this higher grade steel tool. Worked as described on two gold wedding bands that needed 3/4 of a size stretch. Took a few firm hits on a solid surface. Did not anneal metal first and still worked well. This product will last for many years and many uses.

Easy to set up and use - for years my wedding band was uncomfortably tight so left it in door. Local jewelry sire quoted $75.00/ring and would take 2 days to pick back up. With the ring expander I was able to get my wedding ring to fit perfectly and 3 small expansions to insure I had it just right - highly recommend this tool!

Product requires a metal mandrel to hammer the ring off, which it does not include for some reason. Neither does it come with proper instructions to use the product. I tried lubing, heating and hammering the opposite end as the instructions on this products images insist, but it didn’t work. My only solution was to use a screw driver as a mandrel and hammer the opposite end until the ring eventually came off. Save your money and mind and buy another ring resizer on amazon that actually gives you the necessary tools and instructions to use their product
