Disappointed...
Before ordering the 6TB version, I researched the CalDigit T3, as well as a few other brands. It seemed to be exactly what I was looking for. The storage flexibility, the excellent reviews (from Amazon and other third parties), a good price, the solid construction; all were very compelling. Which makes this doubly frustrating to write, as I was never able to turn it on.I made sure to order from CalDigit themselves. However, it did not work out as confidently as I had hoped. The first drive came in a box that was a little crushed (should have been my first clue). Still, I set it up and turned it on. The blue lights flashed in sequence briefly, then nothing. Not a peep. I'd checked the instructions, downloaded the drivers, but it would not revive. Oh well, I thought, maybe it's just the luck of the draw. Occasionally, it must happen, I reasoned, and I returned it...I reordered the same drive (also through CalDigit themselves), and when it arrived I again sensed that something wasn't right. The product box was not sealed (the tab was open). The power brick was scratched, and the power cord pack had been *obviously* ripped open. This time I wasn't even going to try to power it up. I figured that if I paid for a new item, then that's really what I should be getting.I'm naturally more than a little disappointed, but for now I think I may be shopping for another brand. Which is a real shame.I gave 2 stars, as the unit itself is very sturdy and seems to be well made... if only I could turn one on...

Good, If only you could self upgrade drives it would be 5 stars
Previously stated performance numbers are pretty much spot on. I consider not being able to replace the drives with my own SSD drives (even if it does void the warranty) to be a serious negative though.

560Mbps read/write! Clear winner in this space
I spent weeks looking for just the right external storage system for my iMac 5K. For mid-size capacity in the 2TB-4TB, nothing seems to beat the T3 Thunderbolt 2. At 3TB, most everything else was much slower, or much bigger and much more expensive. Mine arrived today. I immediately measured performance with BlackMagic Disk Speed Test: 540MB/s write and 550MB/s read.
