For an initial review, this unit appears to be well built and a decent mandoline for entry level usage. We have another professional model that costs over $100 more than this one.There are two drawbacks I dislike in this unit, which apply to all mandolines in this price range.* The main (horizontal) blade is built-in. This can be a pain for cleaning.* The safety holder is a flimsy. It could be made of thicker and better plastic, as you constantly rub it across the unit. I lost a chunk of a finger on a mandoline in the past, and know first-hand how important a sturdy safety holder is.What I do like about this unit:* The julienne (vertical) blades are easily removable for quick cleaning. They are also on a plastic/nylon axle, which is much easier to clean than the all-metal options.* The unit appears to be well built and seems sturdy (so far) on a countertop. This is pretty important when moving your hands quickly over a razor sharp blade.I strongly recommend getting a pair of cut-safe gloves when using any mandoline, and this is no exception. These types of cooking tools are widely known for their injuries.I don't think it's possible to give a slicer in this price range more than 3 stars; so although I am only giving this 3 stars, that's about as good as you can get without spending at least 5x the price of this one.I received a free product for reviewing purposes.

Luckily I've used a Mandoline Slicer before , so I knew what to expect in terms 'how to use' and 'safety'. This doesn't disappoint. The holder, though, can be a bit hard to use and the blade that pops out for cleaning is challenging to put back in in, but after a few uses it's fine. As for the overall operation and slicing, it is a nice piece of equipment. One of those kitchen things you (typically) don't use very day, but when you need it, this is very nice to have. Glad to have it !

This product seems to be build well and should last over time. I used it last night to prepare vegetables for lettuce wraps. It sliced my cucumbers quickly and easily. I had to be extremely careful of the blade and how I head the cucumber. Before I started using it I used a sponge to lightly wash it, and it sliced off a chunk of the sponge! I cut myself on one years ago also, so I know how quick it can happen! I wanted to make slivers of the radish, but that took more effort in pushing than I was comfortable with, so I just cut slices and then cut them up. So quick and easy! Excellent purchase. Enjoy!

And not just because I threw it in the garbage after a few uses. Because it was a mediocre at best slicer that does its best when it’s chopping your hand because the guard does not go low enough to allow you to chop your whole piece of fruit or vegetable. Then, when you try to use the julienne cut, the locking mechanism does not work, so the feature does not work unless you use your other hand to hold it in place, which again goes back to the danger of slicing your fingers. It gets 2 stars I guess because the blades are sharp, but you’ll probably cut your hands more than fruit or vegetables, so that may not be a good thing.

I have purchased a few Mandolins' in my time and so far this one is the best I've ever used. My first test was a tomato and on this thinnest setting cut it like nobody's business, every slice was consistent. Next was potato chips, again every slice was exactly the same as the one before I then cut some carrots Julienne and all were perfect.A definite 5 star product.I highly recommend this product to use as a home cook or a professional. My husband asked me to bake some zucchini bread for him. I have been putting if off for a while because I really dislike chopping. It is so time consuming, and I'm not good at slicing zucchinis into perfect strips. That is why I decided to purchase this item. It is so easy to use! I was able to julienne the zucchinis in no time at all. Now hubby is happy and so am I! Buy it if you're a klutz like me in the kitchen.

Cuts very well but there is a ridge below the blade prevents smooth back and forth action.

This is a nice size mandolin and very sharp so you get even slices.
