The Best
The water is very hard in my area and I do not like salt based water softeners. In the past, I have tried permanent magnet based de-scalers, with limited success. Since these have a static magnetic field then their effect seems to be determined by water velocity and, therefore, do not perform well when water flow is low. The EDDY, however, is based on an AC field and does not have this problem. I have had the EDDY for two months now and it has performed flawlessly. When I first received it, for example, I cleaned a small nozzle based shower head and recommissioned it. This unit had been set aside because it always clogged with calcium deposits. I also cleaned the glass shower doors and dishwasher. Now, after two months of use, none of these items show any evidence of calcium deposits. The water also seems softer when using shampoos, etc. I believe there may be several reasons for some reviewers to not have a good experience. These are all easy mistakes to make during the installation, especially if the instructions are not carefully followed. Of course, too many of us fall into that category. 1. It is very easy to make a mistake in winding the coils and, therefore, end up with opposing coils. 2. It is very easy to get the coil wires mixed up and this can have the same effect as a wrong winding 3. As stated in the instructions, this unit will not work on iron pipe, but how many homeowners know the difference and most water supply lines are iron pipe. 4. The electronics unit is best when it is located close to the coils 5. Expectations are too often tied to a water softener instead of a de-scaler and this occurs because customers often do not understand the difference 6. As stated in the manual, existing water pipes may have significant hard water build up in them from the past. If this is the case, then it will take some time for this to be descaled out by the conditioned water and this may initially delay optimum results. Lastly, I believe the price is reasonable and the unit is a good value. So far, the quality seems to be there as I have had zero problems. Update: It's now been almost 5 months since I installed the Eddy and my "rain shower" still does not show any issues with hard water deposits. This is one of the older shower heads with metal, not rubber, nozzles so deposits normally show quickly. Also, my glass shower doors stay clear with normal cleaning and my 15 year old water heater has been performing better. Additionally, my dishwasher is still clean. Obviously, there have not been any problems with the Eddy, either, so my report is all positive.

Works as advertised
When I first heard about this descaler solution, I was a bit skeptical. The water to my home has high mineral content so for some time I've been looking for a descaling solution. I've had salt based water softeners in the past but didn't like them. They're expensive, need constant maintenance and just replace natural minerals with unhealthy salt. I've also looked at critic acid based water descalers, but was put off by both the high cost and because they add acid to the water. I researched electronic water descalers and they seemed like the ideal solution for my home: easy to install, inexpensive and they don't add chemicals to the water. The Eddy product advertised a six month trail with no-questions-asked return and refund, so with minimum risk to me, I thought I'd give it a try. I was curious as to what sort of signal the Eddy descaler was putting across the coils surrounding the water pipe, so I hooked up an oscilloscope across the coils to produce the attached image. I also wanted this as a baseline to see if the signal strength decreased over the age of the product. The signal appears to be a series of pulses. Presumably these pulses break the tendency of individual water molecules to "clump" together and free them to attach to the minerals in the water, thus keeping the minerals from forming scale deposits on surfaces. To test this, I partially descaled the black plastic spoon shown in the associated photo. I chose this spoon because its color and texture easily shows scaling. I used white vinegar to descale my pots and utensils when I first installed the Eddy descaler. The photo shows the results of four months of descaler use. The descaler doesn't seem to reduce existing scale, but was very good at keeping new scale from forming. At the same time I noticed scale was no longer forming on the walls and floors of my shower. In the past I needed to descale my shower walls and fixtures every other month. After four months with the Eddy descaler, there is no noticeable scale buildup in my shower. The Eddy descaler is the descaling solution I've always wanted. I will be keeping it. Thanks, Eddy, for a great product! Incidentally, I described the Eddy descaler to a salesperson of traditional water softeners who approached me. He seemed somewhat disheartened with my description and satisfaction with the Eddy descaler. But, technology progresses, and new technologies tend to disrupt incumbent markets.

I think it is actually working!
I have lots of calcium in my well water. The inside of my stainless steel dishwasher was completely white with scale. My bathtub, toilet, counters around the sink all developed a white coating on them over time that could not be removed with a sponge, a scrubber or even a magic eraser. Getting it off took soaking with vinegar and then scraping with a butter knife or credit card. So I wanted something to fix this problem. I researched water softeners and electronic descalers for awhile Water softeners were expensive and there are laws in my area regarding the discharge of brine from them that would further complicate installation, but frankly it seemed like the only good option. As an electrical engineer I was very skeptical about the claims of all of the electronic descaler manufacturers. None of them gave seemed to have plausible explanation of how/why it worked. I consulted with my father (a chemist) who could not come up with an explanation either. I was very nervous about plunking down $200 on snake oil, but with the 1 year money back guarantee on this product, I figured it was worth the risk to find out. Going in, I new what to expect. I knew this was not going to soften the water or reduce the hardness of the water. Reviewers here who are expecting that and complaining that it doesn't work have clearly not informed themselves well enough about what a descaler does. I also expected that the results would not be instantaneous but would instead occur gradually over several months. I installed the unit at the end of March. Installation was pretty easy. I had to add a GFCI outlet for it near my pressure tank in the basement which was the only tricky part. I soaked a paper towel with vinegar and laid it over a section of my dishwasher and cleaned away the scale so that there was a perfectly clear section that I could use for comparison to tell if the descaler was working. I even took pictures of it intending to post before and after pictures here but I accidentally erased them sometime between then and now. It has now been a little over 4 months since installation. For the most part, I am still getting some scale appearing anywhere water collects but, and HERE IS THE KEY DIFFERENCE, it wipes away with the scrubber side of a sponge. I don't need the vinegar soak and scraper to remove it. Also, my wife was using a towel to wipe up some puddled water on the dishwasher and I noticed that afterwards some of the previous scale from before the installation was wiping off. I think the descaled water actually worked to loosen the underneath layers of scale after about 4 months of use. It still takes a little effort to clean away the scale, but it is much easier than before. I used the scrubber side of a sponge today and wiped away the majority of the remaining white scale on the dishwasher door. It was definitely easiest to wipe away where water tends to pool implying that having the descaled water sitting on old scale for extended times does help loosen it. I would have given this 5 stars, but have to subtract one for value. There doesn't seem to be more than $15 worth of material cost in this this thing, so it seems there is a huge markup on it. I don't know if the cost needs to be that high to cover overhead and all of the units returned under warranty, but it seems like this product should be much less expensive.

I think it works, but our water may be too hard
I like the idea of this unit. Less harmful to people/environment etc... The unit seems decently produced, well packed, decent instructions, and install isn't horrible. For the $, I feel it's a very fair deal. If you have typical hard water I think you would be very happy with this unit. If your water is super hard like ours apparently, then this may not work or work as well as needed? What may be our downfall is the hardness of our water here in the rural Midwest USA. Our water tested at between 400-600ppm whatever that means. We've had the unit installed for months now. I suppose it could be our pipes were very scaled up and this is just getting the scale off. I know although the house we bought had a water softener, the previous people didn't use it. But my gut tells me, this unit just can't take care of how hard our water is. I think it does work, but I'm not sure what to do as our dishwasher is almost unusable due to the hardness of water and now scaling of our dishes. The showers are getting scaled up too. I have an email to the company asking if a 2nd unit would help. I suspect the hot water heater(75gallon) may be allowing the water to sit and re polarize or whatever they talk about. BTW, for those that don't know, the unit works by changing the polarity or charge on the calcium ions from positive to negative or vice versa, so evidently the ions can't "stick" like they otherwise would to what we don't want, ie dishes, shower heads etc... My theory is that the hot water tank is letting some of those ions to go back to their normal state. IN the instructions it's stated there is a certain timeframe the water stays "good/polarized" before reverting so that is disclosed and I wasn't trying to state they are covering that up fyi. Anyway, for us, one unit doesn't cut it. I think the technology is valid, and I want it to work for us. I'd buy a 2nd unit if that is the case I feel so strongly, but if a 2nd unit won't work, then I'm back to either a water softener which I'm very opposed to, or a stronger unit or a very expensive saltless whole home water system.

Works as described.
We hate Softwater, I was worried about our water here and shower valves and heads and stuff. All of our plumbing in our house was recently replaced otherwise lead pipes would have been an issue. As I can tell right now things are cleaning themselves, sinks are working better (valves were sticking), shower heads are unclogging themselves and it's doing exactly as people have said. I hate the taste of softened water and I like to drink out of any sink. The stains are still showing up but very very reduced and very easy to wipe off. For us just a soft cloth basically. Since all of our plumbing is new and the water heater is two years old, I wanted to get the longest life out of everything that I could and that's why we did this. Not perfect but I am very impressed with the product! UPDATE: I am trying something really really cool. I bought a second Eddie and I wired it to the water input to my water heater. So the cold water that goes in is being charged as it flows through the water heater I’m trying to shake up and keep the water heater clean I actually have drained it a couple of times seasonally. To get any residue out. I am noticing a difference immediately, the water that comes from the hot water heater definitely feels like it’s softened as you use it and the way it runs over your hands also in the shower I’ve noticed a difference in the water feel for the hot water. We will see how it goes I do have two in the house and I’ve been using one for several years already and I do notice a difference and an improvement. In my valves and longevity of the plumbing system in my house. Shower glass door has no water spots “we use a squeegee” faucet edge to counter tops have little build up. It definitely reduces heavy clean up.

This is a 5 star product, but nobody reads the 5 star reviews. Really - 5 STARS
This descaler is a 5 star product but nobody reads the 5 star reviews. I wanted to get this review read. I live in an area with very hard water, 15 gag. I have a coffee shop with 2 espresso machines. I have a sophisticated water treatment and softening system but the steam boilers stil get scale build up in the boiler and on the element (stainless steel). Every 2 years the boilers need to be de-scaled. This is a time consuming and messy process. The descaling of the boiler takes about a day. Once it is removed from the espresso machine I have to set it up to pump descaling chemical through it for 24 hours to get it clean. I have read about electronic descslers and admit I was sceptical. It has been 2 years since I installed the Eddy. I you read the product description it says that it prevents the minerals from bonding and building up. The Eddy did not eliminate the scale. I had to service the espressso machines including the boiler. When the boiler was removed and emptied there was calcium in the boiler but like small grains of sand. I rinsed the boiler of the sand and upon inspection was surprised. The interior of the boiler was spotless, cleaner then when it was descaled last time. No scale at all. So rather than being a 24 hour ordeal with 2 service trips I was able to reinstall the boiler and get the machine back in service right away. I would recommend this descaler as doing exactly what it promises. Excellent product for the price, easy installation. 5 Stars

With a 1 year no question ask money back guarantee why wouldn't you give this a shot?
My household has had issues with our water hardness for the 3 years we've lived in this house and it has affected everything from our hair being tangled, dry, and difficult to manage to our dishwasher's inability to clean the dishes properly. Enough was enough and my wife asked about getting a water softener which I looked into, yet for $1000+ for a water softening unit, plus the salt bags, plus some of the negative side effects of a water softening system I was hesitant to sign up. The Eddy Electronic Descaler kept showing up in my Google searches and after reading many articles and reviews on other websites I came to Amazon to see what the reviews here said. Due to both the positive reviews and even the negative ones which seem to point out user installation error more often than not, combined with the 1 year money back guarantee I figured why not at least give it a shot to see if it would resolve the issues we were having. After receiving the unit we were surprised at how small it was and still wondered how the heck this was going to help our water hardness problem. The installation took about 30 minutes (most of the time is just spent wrapping the leads around your pipe and keeping them tight and close which is harder than you'd think and requires being patient to do it right. I plugged in the unit once I was done and ran some water through the pipes, but not much water through the hot water heater. My daughter had a shower and washed her hair the same day and both she and my wife were surprised at how much more manageable her hair was while washing (no tangles) and even brushing post shower was much less traumatic with no tears from all the tangles being pulled out. It was a very pleasant surprise right off the bat and then my wife showered and normally the color she uses in her hair washes our very fast with the water, but now it barely comes out and is lasting much longer than it ever did before. Their hair is less poofy, frizzy and tangled than it's been in years. This is truly an amazing product that actually works and considering it's completely risk free (which is why we gave it a shot) what have you got to lose?

Happy with Eddy
Six months into installing and we think there is a difference. Installed to our main line. Contacted eddy a couple of times with pre install questions. My install was a little different. Eddy CS were very quick to respond and very helpful. We live in a city with hard water. Build up on our appliances and fittings are terrible. If you don't clean them often, then you are spending a long time cleaning, or a lot of money replacing. The eddy does not soften your water, only descales/conditions it. The company are pretty clear about this, and do not claim otherwise. So if your looking for a softener then this is not what you need. At the time of install we also added a new water heater, and 4 new faucets. Cleaned up the remaining water fixtures. Added eddy to hopefully protect our new purchases. Six months later we are not noticing any build up at all on any of the new faucets. I mean nothing. Not a spec of any hard, or soft residue. Even the shower heads have not needed a thorough clean. Just a quick wipe down. The toilet bowl with regular cleaning would discolor rapidly. But now it cleans a lot easier. Water heater draining is still 6 months away, but if it is like our other fixtures I'm expecting it to be pretty clean. Not exactly sure what the eddy did, or if it is a pure coincidence that all our water fixtures are now easily maintained after eddy. I'm just going to say that it seems to have done something, we are happy, and I believe eddy worked for us.

Big Difference
Its been three months soince we installed the Eddy and we have seen some changes to our hot water supply. The first thing we noticed was a much improved flow on our hot water system. Prior to the installation the flow was milky colured and very slow now the flow has increased by 100% and the water comes through iat a greater flow rate. This must mean a saving in gas - boiler working for less time. I am also hopeful that it will save us having to replace the heat exchanger in the boiler quite so often, we have been through three in six years thats a total of some £600 ! (We also go through electric showers at about the same rate) There is also been other changes the electric kettle, no scale build up, shower screen stays cleaner, less scale on taps and less use of soap as you don't need to to use as much. The device is very easy to fit, taking around an hour. The device comes with cable ties to hold the coils onto the pipe and I would suggest its a goood idea to have a couple of spares in case of mistakes. (Once fitted give the Eddy time to work ! This is stipuated in the manual and is why writing the recommendation has been left ) Although the Eddy is not the cheapest on the market the benefits we feel out weigh this. All round an excellent device .

Does the Job - full stop.
I live in an area with very hard water (Bath) and for years scale was an issue. This device solved it WITHOUT making the water too soft or with extra salt. I am very happy with the product and strongly recommend it. I advise to get a plumber to do a proper instalation (if the the pipe system is complicated) to get the full benefits. It works - full stop.

So far so good
Installation was a breeze, since this is supposed to reduce (see stop) scale from building will have to monitor over time if it does what is supposed to.
