Roger Moore goes beyond Bond
This Polish import is a fine addition to my already well-stocked DVD collection. Sir Roger Moore, 1 of my all-time favourite actors, gives a virtuoso performance as Dr.Judd Stevens, a specialist in listening to people's problems. Early into the film we see the irreplaceable Rod Steiger as Lt Mcreevy, a hard case who holds a personal grudge against Stevens because of a case involving the death of Mcreevy's former partner some years before, enter, aided by his new sidekick(well played by Elliot Gould)wielding Stevens yellow raincoat tarnished by a bloodstain from where a knife has already been inserted into the side of 1 of Stevens' unsuspecting clients. As the case unfolds and several incidents occur, Stevens realises that his life is in mortal danger, but can't think of who or why anyone would want him dead. Adding to the tension is Mcreevy's own obvious personal distain for Stevens. Gould is excellent as the would-be sidekick who later turns out to be a runner for the mob. As it turns out, it is the paranoid husband of 1 of Stevens' patients who is at the centre of all these attempts on Stevens' life. Gould is mercilessly thrown into a waste paper crusher and it is left to Mcreevy and his police partners to save Stevens' life before he is wasted by the mob. Overall an enjoyable and suspensful film with more than a few twists throughout. Good performances from Moore, Steiger and Gould make this a must have for 1980's film buffs.

A true Gem! Utterly priceless!
To make this crystal clear, this DVD (despite the German title) can also be watched in English.Overall, I thought 'The Naked Face' was an absolute gem of what Roger Moore is capable as an actor. At this point in time (1984 to be exact), you can tell he is a true master at his craft. The raw emotion he bought up was really realistic and added to the whole drama of the plot. I have actually read the book by Sidney Sheldon and this film is a pretty good interpretation of it. There were a few things missing here and there but, hey, the film is generally never the same as the book, anyway! The DVD quality is brilliant. Especially, when you consider that this is a VHS transfer. The sound quality is also pretty good. I would probably go as far as saying that this is one of Roger's better films, next to 'The Man Who Haunted Himself.' His range of acting was superb! The plot itself was full of suspense and kept me hooked from the beginning, all the way to the end. Definitely worth its weight in Gold, if your a major Roger Moore fan, like myself!

the naked face
Little shown on tv this is rog at his very best showing the variation in his acting skills. Able to show both a humour ,seriousness and charm only he can deliever,in the 80s Moore outside of Bond made some real poor films. This however was a jewel in how to act, pity he made so few fimls ,guess he made so much money from thge Saint and Bond he did them more for his own entertainment than improveing his cv. Shocking ending never heard him swear so much. Best actor Englands ever had!

One of Moore's best perfomances
This movie is hust excellent. What more can I say. A psychiatrist (Moore) inadvertently has as a patient a woman that is the wife of a Mafia Capo. This puts him in a truly dangerous position having to navigate between obligations towards his professional secrecy and loyalty to the police when a person, believed to be him, is obviously murdered. The plot ends surprisingly! Its a thriller through and through and Morre playes excellently. You will want to see this again and again. Unreservedly recommended.

THE NAKED FACE
THE FILM IS BASED ON A SYDNEY SHELDON NOVEL AND IT DOES SHOW HOW OLD IT IS. ROGER MOORE PLAYS PSYCHIATRIST DR. STEVENS WHO REALISES THAT HIS LIFE IS IN DANGER WHEN HIS SECRETARY AND ONE OF HIS PATIENTS WEARING A RAINCOAT HE'D BORROWED FROM STEVENS ARE KILLED. THE TWO POLICE DETECTIVES WHO ARE ASSIGNED TO THE CASE FAIL TO INSPIRE CONFIDENCE IN THEIR ABILITIES. THE ONE PLAYED BY ROD STEIGER HAS A GRUDGE AGAINST THE DOCTOR DUE TO THE TESTIMONY HE'D GIVEN IN A TRIAL IN THE PAST, THE OTHER PLAYED BY ELLIOT GOULD SEEMS KINDER AND MORE TOLERANT THAN HIS PARNER BUT INEFFECTIVE. WHAT IS GOING ON AND WILL STEVENS MANAGE TO REMAIN ALIVE? I FOUND THE ENDING A BIT RUSHED, UNDERWHELMING AND WEAK, BUT I STILL ENJOYED IT.
