Entertaining. Instructive. Deep.
The first half of the book is Brady’s autobiography as a hypnotist. Reading it, I got to learn about hypnotism as he did, which was illuminating as well as entertaining. His experiences with stage hypnotism made for especially fun reading. In the second half of the book, Brady provides his theory of what is actually going on with hypnotism. His intellectual musings, study, experimentation, and discovery were fascinating. They led him to a simple conclusion. Hypnotism enables people to perceive the world differently. A new perception (which can be the result of a new physical action or, as in hypnosis, a new mental image) starts to carve a new habit in the brain. So, hypnotism helps us create new habits.

This was great for a number of reasons
I thoroughly enjoyed this read for a number of reasons. The first was the author's very candid account of his journey to becoming the accomplished hypnotherapist he is today. The fact that he started at quite an advanced age is a great reminder of the possibilities that are available to us at all stages of our life and that life is an amazing and often surprising journey. This book was a reminder of the possibilities and differences that can be affected with the use of hypnosis and reignited in me my desire to get back into doing more hypnotherapy with my clients. Finally the author did not hold anything back. He shares freely and openly what he did, does and uses when working with clients. So I found this book very insightful. His challenge of the concept of an unconscious mind is also very thought provoking and caused me to rethink my definitions and use of the term.So I definitely recommend this informative and fun read by Lindsay Brady.(Thanks also to Steven Chandler for recommending it).

Lindsay shows me how brilliant I really am
I've been to see Lindsay twice - to quit smoking, then 20 year later, to lose weight. My sessions with him have been fascinating and have had profound realizations. The first session for smoking - I walked out a non- smoker, period. Yesterday was my weight loss session. Amazing! I immediately noticed changes in my perceptions and my behaviors. I just bought the Kindle book and I'm absolutely captivated. Lindsay shows me how brilliant I really am. It's me, not Lindsay. Just get the book and you'll see for your self.

A good book on hypnosis
As a former hypnotherapist, I can tell when someone knows the correct facts about hypnosis and self-hypnosis. The author recaps his life story as it relates to becoming a hypnotist and as the book progresses, he begins to expound on what he gradually begins to believe as to how hypnosis really works to produce the desired results. I have to say that I believe he has put his finger on what exactly happens and how to develop the techniques to get good results.

Every Hypnotist/Hypnotherapist should read this book
Every Hypnotist/Hypnotherapist should read this book Lindsay Brady is a hypnotherapist still practicing in the US and this book is all about his journey to being the therapist he is today you will not be disappointed. He tells of how he developed his own style of hypnosis and how he learned from all his mistakes. His story will open your mind to really understanding what you are doing as a hypnotherapist and like me you may come to your own conclusions as you may agree and disagree with some of his ideas but be inspired to create new ways for more success as a therapist.

Discovering the Connection between Peace of Mind and the Joy of Consciousness
"As the Pendulum Swings" is the true life story of Lindsay A. Brady, nationally recognized clinical hypnotherapist. The book is written in two parts. In Part One Brady relates the story of his early interest in hypnosis, of his curiosity as to the mind/brain connection, and of his quest for answers to his unresolved questions. He talks about the secret of overcoming a lack of confidence, his inhibitions, and scholastic deficits, and of his low self perception.Throughout the book Brady draws on compelling illustrative case studies to give the reader a better understanding of the process and objectives of hypnosis and hypnotherapy. He explains how the dynamic term "perceptionism" is the driving force behind hypnotherapy. Brady tells of how he developed his approach to help his clients overcome their self destructive behavior.Part Two explores the theory behind hypnosis and of the influences that led to his conclusions. He talks about the Arizona Society for Professional Hypnosis, of perception, regression, and altered consciousness. Brady shares of conversations held in his own "inner room" drawing on wisdom from conversations with an inner wisdom he named "Socrates."The book concludes with a comprehensive appendix which includes detailed information on the structure of a typical perceptionism session, perception's influence, the nervous system, and muscular behavior. He also gives insight into eliminating the adversities of stress and anxiety. I appreciated the bibliography which includes both book resources and available University Courses.Brady's writing is intellectually stimulating, fast moving, and hilarious. His self deprecating humor belies his true genius. He is highly entertaining, filled with profound insight into understanding consciousness and self fulfillment. "As the Pendulum Swings" is sure to be a welcome answer to anyone interested in investigating the "mind/brain" connection.
