Mark is extremely well versed in strength and conditioning training generally and for the fight game in particular. I've known Mark for years, dating back to when we exchanged opinions on his articles in Full Contact Fighter. I was able to train with him for a short period of time and even have him teach a strength seminar for a group of friends. I've learned a lot from our exchanges and looked forward to his book - it didn't disappoint.Mark's book is different from most books on the topic in that he really emphasizes the basic principles of training. He provides a good overview of creating a long term training plan and how to build the medium and short term components of that plan in order to insure progress. He also provides a good comparison between linear and non-linear periodization. He covers not just strength and power training, but also endurance training, athlete assessment template, and injury prevention and rehab. Given that this is a relatively advanced book I was surprised he had a chapter on exercise directory, which while fairly complete, can be found in other books. Mark includes some sample routines - both for weekly or even daily timeframes as well as some longer, periodization-based examples which are very useful. My one critique of the book is that I would have liked to have seen an example of integrating the strength and conditioning workouts with the fight training in a 4 - 6 week schedule. Given his experience training fighters it would also have been nice to show an example of a 6 to 8 week training camp leading to the fight. The book is well researched, as demonstrated by the extensive list of references, but is grounded in reality based on Mark's extensive real-world experience. Overall I give the book high grades and highly recommend it for those that are beyond the basic introduction to strength and conditioning training and for those that are interested in applying those principles to the various fighting disciplines.

Fong book explains better how you can improve you punching power specifically for ...
I have mixed feelings about this book, if you are a coach or you are a professional fighter this book is for you. If you think you are going to find in this book how to throw a harder right or hook specifically, look elsewhere. I saw in the web an article where the author shows exercises to improve the cross punch, that information is not shown in this book, if you are looking for specific information about how you can hit harder with punches kicks and throw harder in a specific way with exercises for each punch, kick or throws, this is not the book. Mr Leo T. Fong book explains better how you can improve you punching power specifically for each punch

Excellent book -unique insight and analysis about strength and conditioning
I have been involved in the sports and fitness for over 20 years so many of the concepts and methods covered in K.O. Power are not new to me- periodization, plyometrics, and so forth. What makes Ginther's book stand out is his in-depth analysis of these various strength-training concepts and methods, both in and of themselves as well their martial arts and fight-sport applicantsK.O. Power is excellent both for the seasoned athlete or coach as well as the absolute beginner, as it provides all the tools necessary to turn the inexperienced novice into a competent journeyman, but is also provides unique insights and analysis that has made me rethink a lot of what I believed about strength and conditioning.K. O. Power is a must-read for all serious fighters and coach.

Very Well Written!
This book is well written and very detailed. It was a little more detailed than I would have liked for it to be. However I don't fault the author, but I realize that the content was not especially what I wanted. I was looking more for a book on exercise and general ways to build power. I think this is the ideal book for those who are martial arts oriented.

The book won't make you into a good power puncher
It has many things that are right. But the order of these things are chaotic.
