Charcoal Tongs

I ordered these for use with my smoker, and grill. I use a chimney starter, and then need tongs to spread the coals around. I wanted a pair of tongs to dedicate to this purpose instead of using the same one I use to turn the food. These were actually the only ones I could find that are specifically designed for charcoal. I admit that I didn't do an exhaustive search, so I'm sure others are available somewhere.I like the flat tongs for moving coals. They seem to get a hold of them a bit better than tongs designed for meat. They seem sturdy, but are not heavy. These are about the same length as other tongs designed for use on a grill. I actually might have preferred a few inches longer, but it's fine with a good pair of gloves. Any decent pair of grill tongs should work fine; but if you want a pair dedicated to moving coals, I like these.

I bought these tongs to use for pulling my charcoal while dutch oven cooking. I liked that they were really long and made of durable cast iron. Those are the good points about using these tongs. Unfortunately, they are pretty difficult to work with, meaning it's really hard to grasp coals with these tongs. They are very stiff and it is difficult for me to get a hold of multiple coals at the same time which is helpful when needing a lot of fuel. Maybe it is because I am a woman and don't have the hand strength a guy might have while using them, but there is nothing in the design to help make grasping easier if you are not an arm wrestler! I will keep and use them when I only need a few coals, but when pulling lots of coals to cook with I revert back to my cooking tongs instead. I had hoped for more.

I am using these tongs with my smoker and the real issue is that if you have to move a lot of coals (from the starter into the smoker) your hands get quite tired. Also after some time you need to spread them open as they deform during use.

Great for charcoal brickettes involving my Weber kettle grill. No burning of hands and reminds me of charcoal tongs that my dad had for his Weber many, many years ago. I can remove the grate and put more charcoal in without feeling like they will fail. They are sturdy and easy to use 1 handed. Definitely would buy another pair for my dad's Weber.

A little hard to use but an OK product.I find myself using a standard pair of long tongs more often.They don't open up very much so they are good for charcoal but not for wood chunks

These tongs are fantastic for charcoal! I should have bought them sooner! They are very sturdy and grip the coal very easily and securely. One post said they are not good for wood chunks but I have not had a problem with those either. I know the shipping is pretty high but they got here very quickly! You wont regret this purchase.

Quality product...does the job
