This unit was easy to install (for what it is) after watching YouTube videos. It COMPLETELY solved the water hammering issue we were having with our basement sump system. Based on how our piping was installed in the great wide open (installer did not run piping along a wall for support), I was very fearful that the extreme hammering we were having was going to jolt the piping loose or break something and then we'd have spraying water all over the place. My husband had tried to drain the pipes, let them dry, and then resume normal activity. Well, he gave that two tries, and it definitely didn't solve the problem. The water hammering was just getting worse with time. Hubby watched a couple of YouTube videos, ordered one quiet valve......not a bad price....and installed it an afternoon (3 to 4 hours). Once in place, there was zero hammering, the pipes are now completely still, and I don't have to worry about the thing rattling around so bad that it's going to break and cause issues. I would highly recommend that if you have hammering issues, get one of these, because they work! I do not know much about the longevity, as ours has only been in place for a few months now.....but I gave it 5 stars since it hasn't failed yet and still seems to be operating very smoothly.

This is an awesome product! I had a leaky check valve and needed to replace with something. I did a little research to see if there were any quieter options, and this thing came up. Given all the glowing reviews, I was nervous that I'd be let down. But, this product is a great example of technological improvement over a sub-par design that people have just "lived with" for years. Given the stellar performance of the product, I've rated this at five stars. But, the honest truth is that it could use just a bit more authoritative instructions on how to install it. There is NOTHING in the box on what the best installation method(s) should be. I thought the product was good enough to get five stars despite this. You basically just need to read through the reviews here on Amazon to understand the best way. I had trouble with it leaking a little when I installed it, but the leaks went away after my plumber trued up the vertical alignment of the pipes and tightened the top and bottom unions with a pipe wrench. My plumber was managing other problems with my sump pit and didn't mind doing this for me at no additional cost. In my installation, I had to use a hacksaw to cut below the union of the old check valve and then again above the quarter-turn ball valve that was solvent welded directly to the top of the old check valve. With an extra bucket handy, I was able to catch 99% of the muck that drained out of my vertical pipe without much mess. I solvent-welded the new union on the bottom pipe, solvent welded a new ball valve to the top pipe, and then measured the exact length of pipe between them, and solvent-welded the top union to that piece. I definitely recommend dry-fitting pipe as other reviewers recommended, I had to cut pipe a couple different times before I got it right. One thing I did not do, that others did, your mileage may vary, but I should mention it. I did not use thread compound or teflon tape on my unions. This may help you to avoid the bit of leaking that I dealt with. My leak was only happening on the top union, as the weight of the column of water on top of the valve was pressing down. Your mileage may vary, but my plumber did not have to add thread compound or teflon tape, just made sure the pipes were vertically aligned and the unions were sufficiently tightened. He did mention that "too tight" was not good either, as it caused more leaks, so he backed it off just a bit. But, he had to tighten it beyond just hand-tight. The valve has been performing flawlessly, and no leaks ever since.

Using in a basement sump pit with grinder pump. Before installing, my pump was running for long periods of time (it typically only runs for 5-10 seconds at a time to empty out the sump pit). I wasn't sure if a) the pump was bad, b) the check valve was bad (my original valve was not a 'see through' design) or c) my pipe had a clog somewhere. Turns out it was my old check valve that was bad. The install was easy (basic PVC cutting and gluing) and it comes with PVC attachments that let you unscrew out the valve if needed. This might be handy if I have to replace someday -- can just screw another one in without having to cut or glue. This valve lets huge amounts of flow through, and best of all it is COMPLETELY quiet. If I have problems in the future then being able to see the water flow will let me know if water is flowing to help with the diagnosis. No more water hammer when it shuts off, you don't hear it at all. Why didn't I buy this years ago? I've had it installed for about a month, so I can't yet speak to it's longevity but I see no reason it shouldn't last a long time. Completely satisfied. UPDATE - 15 months later and working perfectly. It's one of those things that you 'enjoy' every time it works. Sounds silly for a check flow valve but it's quiet and works so well. If you need a valve you must buy this. I paid full price for mine and have no relationship with the manufacturer!

Like many people have reported in their reviews, I had been putting up with a loud "clunking" noise for years every time my sump pump expelled water from the sump pit. The cause was an old Legend check valve with a rubber flapper. After reading the 95%+ positive reviews on this site, I decided to buy this "quiet" check valve in hopes of eliminating the irritating clunking noise. It arrived from the shipper, LA Pond, within 3 days of placing the order on Amazon. There were no installation instructions included with the valve, so I did some internet research and figured out how to properly install it. After removing the old valve, I discovered that the new Campbell valve was somewhat longer than the old Legend valve, so I had to cut 2" off the end of one of the existing PVC pipes to create the required 8" space between the ends of the two existing PVC pipes. The recommended way to install this valve is to glue the upper and lower couplers to the existing PVC pipes. Since I already had a can of PVC cement and a can of purple primer on hand, no trip to the hardware store was necessary. After gluing the couplers onto the pipes and letting them cure for 10-15 minutes, it was then just a matter of fitting the main body (the clear part) between the couplers and securing the unit in place by hand-tightening the threaded end caps. I then plugged in the sump pump, opened the shut-off valve above the check valve, and slowly filled the pit with a couple buckets of water to activate the pump. The result was just as I had hoped: no more clunking noise! And no leaks either. This is a wonderful product -- just wish I had installed it 5 years ago when I bought this house. UPDATE January 2018: After 4 years of use, this valve still works flawlessly.

This valve is MUCH quieter than the standard check valves used for sewage ejector pumps. No banging, no rattling of pipes. Works as advertised. Great product. But it's not perfect. As other reviewers have stated, the mating surfaces on the ends of the body, where the O-rings seal, had a ridge from the mold it was made from. Taking no chances, I sanded both ends smooth, using fine sandpaper on top of a flat granite surface plate. While holding the body end perfectly flat on the sandpaper, it took 20 or so strokes across and around the plate to completely remove the ridge on each end. Also, the threads were not real smooth either. Upon tightening, it felt tight, but then when I gave it just a bit more torque, it would break free and spin loosely for about 1/8 turn until finally tightening again. It was like it had to jump past those mold lines in the threads. If I were the manufacturer, I would, at very least, remove the ridges on the O-ring mating surfaces. This critical surface should have ZERO ridges. I would pay another couple bucks for whatever machining process they would need to do in production, to avoid having to do this at home.

For years we have tolerated a tremendous water hammer BANG from our walk out basement sewer ejector pump. When you heard the pump start to discharge during the night, you'd grit your teeth and hold on to the bed rails waiting for the BANG which literally made the walls rattle. I'd tried various things over the years - securing the pipe, drilling a weep hole in the discharge line in the pit - nothing worked and there was little on the Internet to suggest a solution other than "Live With It." I read some mixed reviews on this product and went with the "you won't regret it" crowd. I can testify after dozens of pump operations, the very worst noise is a very occasional burp - probably when some small piece of detritus momentarily blocks the spring loaded check valve. The small noise is never repeated twice in a row - the usual noise is the swoosh of the pump followed by --- silence. AMAZING! Because of the geometry of our family room, I wasn't able to locate the valve near the ejector discharge on a horizontal run of pipe. I had to install it in place of the original non-spring loaded check valve which was located a foot or two below where the line discharged into the main waste line - and it went in vertically, rather than horizontally. Unfortunately, it was a tad longer and had different threads than the original check valve, so I did have to cut out the old one and glue in this valve - took less than 1/2 hour (and don't forget a small bucket to drain the pipe above the check valve; it isn't a pleasant smell at all, but, as we discovered when our daughter was born - IT washes off). If you are cringing every time your ejector pump drains, install this valve (or have your friendly neighborhood plumber install it) and enjoy the SILENCE! UPDATE at 2/16/2015 - almost three years later, valve is starting to "chatter" and slam shut occasionally. Not yet sure if it's the valve or my spouse's habit of flushing cigarette butts down the toilet. Because the valve passes sewage less than once per day, I suspect the butts float and aren't purged from the sewer pit until they build up a certain volume. Then they may temporarily keep the valve from closing. I've asked spouse to stop flushing butts (have given up asking her to quit) and will see if the problem persists. Hope that's the cause since I'm not looking forward to opening up the drain line for any reason...

I bought this to help my daughter and her family. They live in a nearly new home with a sewage pump located in the basement. It would run every so often and then shut off with a loud bumping sound that was clearly audible throughout the house. They found it distracting and embarrassing when guests were there. The majority of the sound I thought was from a pipe in the basement ceiling that probably hadn't been secured well enough, but the ceiling was nicely finished so I couldn't reach it without making a mess. So after reading the reviews here, I took a leap of faith and ordered this product hoping that it might at least quieten the noise. My son-in-law and I installed it last week. Here's a tip--the pipe is not exactly under pressure, but it does have standing waste water in it that extends several feet upward, so when you break loose the old fitting, expect a brief shower of water that you don't want to think about. You can minimize the splashing by wrapping a rag around the fitting to keep it from dousing you up and down. Also, of course, have a handy bucket to capture the drainage. We also had to take it loose twice because the coupling leaked a bit after snugging it up. I just used PVC glue to fasten the top fitting to the 2" pipe to prevent it. The result? No more noise. The pump even sounds quieter now than before and it pretty much inaudible upstairs. When it shuts off, there's simply a cessation of pump noise. No more banging! I can't believe how effective this product works. The old check valve even has a swollen body to it and is the same shape as this one, but the difference is night and day (or banging and silence). If you have noise issues, give this baby a try.

About five years ago I went on a quest to silence a sump pump. I was tired of the water hammer that that followed every triggering of the pump. During and after any considerable rain there was a predictable hum and thump from the floor as the sump cistern filled and was emptied out in the yard. I did all of the recommended steps. I got rid of as many 90° turns as possible, I moved the piping away from joists then fixed it in place with thin foam insulating it from the wall and the clamps holding it. The last thing I did was install one of these valves. I can honestly say I don't know if the sump is still operational unless I'm standing staring at it when it runs. The clear body allows you to see the valve move. Cut to three weeks ago when we utilized new space in the basement. A family member slept in the newly renovated bedroom and made comment about the thump the sewage pump makes Everytime the cistern fills. When I ordered this I didn't expect it to be clear. When I received it I almost sent it back. I've been staring at the last three weekends. I finally gave in and installed. It was simple to place because of a ball valve I'd installed above the original. Unplug the pump, shut off the top-side valve, wrap the whole thing in paper towels and remove the old valve. I made a single cut on the bottom stretch of pipe to make the proper amount of room. A little primer and adhesive was used to set the end connectors in place and screw the flanges down to the valve housing. It's silent. The noise you hear in the video is predominately water from a toilet flush and sink running into the cistern to trigger the pump. If you have a noisy sump or sewage pump, don't hesitate to find one of these. That spring holding against the pump's water pressure will save your sanity.

I had tried several check valves and all were very noisy on closing. I was sceptical about the claims made by the manufacturer but for the price I thought it was worth a try. I was amazed by how quiet this valve is and well worth the price, which is not expensive. I would recommend this valve over and above any regular type to anyone who requires a quiet functioning one way valve and as a plus they have very fast shipping.

Fast shipping and as described. Used on my 2 inch sewer sump pump, which thumped repetitively for about 10 seconds, likely the fluid neared bottom of the sump trying to pump last bit out couldn’t overcome head pressure. Put this back flow preventer in and it worked great, no more thumping. Hopefully this lasts, but for the price you can’t go wrong. Not sure why it’s clear, maybe so you can see when it fails? Hope that’s not for quite sometime.

The mold has seams where the seals are , lightly sanded like reviews had mentioned so No leaks I’m really hoping it lasts a long time because it is silent when the pump shuts off ! We used to hear a bang threw out the second floor before so I def recommend this quiet valve .

Since it’s used for a sewage ejected system the clear plastic isn’t very attractive. But it works very well. Ultra quiet

What a difference. It lives up to the hype. Wish I would have know about this quite valve when the system was installed.
