Sturdy, reliable, and great for the dog park!
I recently purchased the Sports Dog Collar, and it has been great. The collar is sturdy and especially valuable at the dog park. I only use the sound and vibration options, and my dog responds immediately with no training required. At the park, this has been a game-changer. When my dog starts to run towards a skirmish or potential fight, a. press of the sound button brings her running back to me. This alone makes it worth the price! The only downside is that there is no way to know when the power is running low. I have to remember to charge it regularly. Another issue I had with the first collar was that it stopped working. When I noticed that my dog wasn't responding, I tested it on myself and it wasn't functioning. However, the company's customer service was excellent...I spoke with a very helpful representative who walked me through troubleshooting. When it was clear that the unit had failed, she quickly arranged to send me a brand new set. The replacement works perfectly, and I appreciate the responsiveness and support of their customer service.

The BEST training collar there is!
This collar is fabulous. We actually have two of them for our two miniature dachshunds. They have worked wonderfully when training our boy to stay in our yard. We live in the country and there are all kinds of wild life around. They are both now trained when they here the beep or feel the vibration to come to us. You have had to use the electrical shock a few times but no more. I didn't like to use it but i feel it has saved their lives. We did have trouble with the remote control but customer servicee is wonderful. They sent us a new remote, pairing it with the collar you have is simple. It fits them well with no issues that way, the vigration level is perfect for our pups and as for the range they always respond. Its also kind of funny our 2 year old responds when he hears our 1 year olds beep without even having his on. The picture shows are 1 year old Toby resting comfortably with it on. Don't hesitate, if you need a collar, get this one or I imagine any of their collars.

Waterproof feature and functionality -amazing
This product is AMAZING, the fact that it is waterproof is no joke, this collar belongs to my daughter for her dog, they live on my house. Today while the dog was in my care I inadvertently threw the remote for the collar in the washing machine. Oops! It is still working without even a hiccup. I thought I would have to buy a new one but to my surprise itโs working perfectly. Highly donโt recommend putting it in a washing machine but if you had questions on the waterproof feature, your question is now answered! We are working on keeping her from barking at all the neighborhood people and dogs and all it takes is the lowest setting and she stops and she is 80 pounds, just under a year old.

Wish Iโd used it sooner
I took away a star for 2 reasons, the first one I bought worked only for 1 week, 2nd charging is finicky. (On that note donโt just use any charger that fits if itโs to powerful it will break.) the collar and receiver are supposed to blink when they are full, my receiver doesnโt blink after plugging it in a different charger and another one turned red and wouldnโt work anymore. Now for the important stuffโฆโฆ I felt so guilty about using this in the first place that I left it in the box forever. I wanted my dog ( 1yr golden retriever) to be safe off leash so much that I finally put it on her. After one week, I was so mad at myself for not putting it on her sooner. She responded immediately at one of the lowest settings before putting it on her she knew commands like sit, lay down, but she didnโt always come when called. I didnโt feel comfortable with her in the front yard because itโs not fenced and capture on a leash for walks. Within one week she is off leash on all of our walks and has no trouble in the front yard and I rarely have to actually press the button. For the first week I pressed it just when she was getting too far away, or if she was walking in the street or when another dog was passing after that first week I only have to tell her no or to say or simply call her name, and she immediately comes back and stops. Honestly, this product has made both of us very happy and I feel very safe when sheโs out. Now itโs simply an extra safety net.

DON'T BUY THIS. JUNK OR DEFECTIVE
Do NOT buy this unit. UPDATED DEC 15 2021 USA. I added the longer electrodes and they didnโt make any difference. The sportdog continues to UNDERPERFORM. Right now I have no idea what power setting is activaged. I thought it was set on #2 but the test put my puppy on the ceiling. This unit may have a short. Nethertheless itโs a POS. This a review of the SPORT DOG E-trainer Model 425x, an electrical training collar designed for training animals, mainly dogs. This was purchased by me shortly after I adopted (purchased) my new 10 week old German Sheppard puppy with true blue bloodline documented by the AKC. The collar was purchased April 3, 2021 and put into use May 2021. The electrodes were 3/8. Extended 5/8 inch is a $10 option but back ordered 2 months+. I never write a review when Iโm mad, and finally after several months using the SmartDog 425X I decided to write the review mad or not. Notes: 1) The extended electrodes are backordered 2 monthsโฆ. Why? โข 500 yard range e collar that can support training 3 dogs with the same remote with purchase of additional collars (SDR AF) โข Choose to train with vibration (buzz), tone (beep), or 21 levels of static simulation in either momentary (nick) or continuous โข Waterproof and submersible to 25 feet using DryTek technology โข Lithium ion, rechargeable batteries feature a 2 hour quick charge, and a low battery indicator lets you know when to charge โข Fits dogs 8 pounds or larger with neck sizes 5 to 22 inches โข Age range description: All stages โข Included components: Basic training manual โข The puppy, is an energetic male of 10 lbs as a puppy, and is still growing at 11 months and approximate 80 lbs. His dog mom (130 lbs estimated and dog dad 150 lbs. Due to breeder issues Yeti was not transferred to me until he was 12+ weeks old. That is on the further edge of the training age and to wait longer will make training more difficult. He is a smart dog and I enrolled him a reputable boot camp for 2 weeks. He came home with a good attitude. We have a lot of distractions (cats, snakes, horses, coyotes, wolves, cougars, etc. on a 10 acre ranch with a stocked lake and I was afraid that we may have issues with him chasing animals or cars. The additional benefits of the SmartDog is to further train him with obedience for his and my safety. However, it seems NOT TO WORK about 80% of the time. Perhaps thereโs a Broken wire which may cause the malfunctions, or maybe a design issue. The Good: Customer Service is very friendly and cooperative. Iโd give them 5 stars. 2) The competitorโs devices are backorders 2 months .. that may indicate problems with this product forcing a purchase of the competition? The Bad: The E-Collar 425X is not reliable. My German Sheppard Puppy has thick hair so to get a electrical shock the collar has to be very tight making it hard to put a finger between the electrode and skin. The longer electrodes are ยฝ inch longer, but BACK ORDERED 2 months. Why? The Amazon advertising did not mention anything about dog size, fur thickness, etc. This may have affected the purchase decision. The color of controller is battleship gray which is hard to see at night or low light. I see adds for the orange version but not listed in the options on the Amazon pages. I put on orange tape to increase the visibility. I painted the control buttons but the paint came off after a few days. The controller is very small but then I have large hands (large gloves are very tight). I didnโt see any dimensions for the handheld controller so I have these measurements: 3x1.75x1 inches shaped like an hour glass. Itโs too small for my hand. It may be best for a small child. The overall small size of the controller makes it harder to find the proper fit to a hand. The contoured unit is shaped like an small hour glass. The activation button is the same dull gray color and itโs only ยผ inch round . and itโs hard to locate and only on one side. It needs to be much bigger (the button ยฝ inch) and there should be 2 of them, and a neon glow color for rapid identification. The grey leash is accessing hanging from the necklace suspension, and about 80% of the time the palm of my hand wrapped around was totally out of place. It took 2 or more grabs to get the single activation button in an activation position. Larger and 2 extra buttons would be an improvement. The collar is long and rubber with the standard belt buckle design, NOT Velcro. Velcro would be easier to put on a bouncing puppy. On the recommendation of the mfg I trimmed the collar but just few weeks later because my puppy rapid growth , I had to buy another collar โฆโฆโฆ. $20 with shipping, or buy 3 and get free shipping ($45 for 3). In my option Velcro would be easier to fit and adjust. The batteries charge with 110 AC from a compatible sourse, like the wall. The charging light is steady during the charge and go to โflashingโ when charging is complete. The duration of the charge depends on frequency of the unit use. The zap is very short and has an aural beep when zapped. As the battery drains the flashing green changed to flashing red. The manual suggests that a charge will last 72 hours if not used. Iโm not happy with the unit. It seems they should of had an interview questionnaire to assist on making a purchase decision more informed, such as dog type, long or short hair, The instructions are not simple. There are 3 plateaus for shocks at 21 level. Iโm not clear how to change the settings. I think Iโm on level 1.3 now, but not sure. I found the instructions confusing. Not knowing where the zap setting is was poor planning. Why not an LED scale for rapid referral to set the zap? The collar was purchased for training AND for safety interventions. My puppy is curious and is distracted when he gets close to a road with a speed limit of 25 (not the 52 everyone speeds at). Itโs important to me that the collar can be used to change his run direction away from a danger. This unit seems only to work 20% of the time for a correctional change. We were at a local farm store when an elderly man came out and my Puppy 70 lbs at the time, began to pull me flat footed on pavement toward this man. Iโm 230 +gun & amo and he was pulling me. I was pressing the zap button with nothing happening. I was yelling for him to stop. Finally the man began to pull his pistol. When I was 30 I could draw and fire from the hip in .26/100 second striking center mass. I shoot competition. Iโm 68 and have slowed down to .68/100s โฆโฆ.. the old man saw the business end of a 45 auto. He stopped. We talked. We understand that the puppy thought the guy was our neighbor. THE fact is the SPTDOG failed during a critical time. SUNDAY DEC 12 2021 Iโm sitting here with a pulled hamstring leg muscle. I can barely walk. I was taking my 85 lb puppy out for potty time. He saw a kitten on the front porch and puppy bolted through the screen door with my hand holding the leash, and other hand on my sportdog 425X shock button. Putty had the forward momentum and pulled me (220 lbs) off of my feet and across the deck. Down the steps in a single foot touching the ground 5 ft drop to the ground โฆโฆ pulling my hamstring. THE SPORT DOG FAILED โฆโฆ. FAILED TO SHOCK AND THE DOG DRAGGED ME DOWN THE STEPS AND ACROSS THE DIRTโฆโฆโฆ.

This works well as I wean my dog from some of her barking problems
Dogs bark, it's a fact of life. But sometimes they bark at inappropriate times and need a reinforcement to the word "quiet." My blue heeler had it in her head that the moment the kitchen light turns on in the pre-dawn hours at the house next door that the neighbor will come out and give her and the other dogs their daily treat over the back fence. This is a long-standing tradition between our households going back nearly 20 years. They love dogs but travel a lot, so instead of having their own animals they pamper my dogs with this one treat a day. Once I became aware that the blue heeler had started this incessant regular non-stop bark very early, I realized it needed more than just shouting out the back door at her to make it stop. The yards are big here and I don't always hear her over by that fence unless I'm listening for it. I checked with the dog trainers I have worked with from Invisible Fence and asked what they recommended and told them what I had in mind. They recommended this SportDog collar, and I read through the book carefully before deploying it. She got the "quiet" command at the door (when I go check the mail there is a paroxysm of unnecessary barking) and out the back in the morning. And after a few days she got the tone and vibration with the command. And when she chose to ignore the tone and vibration, she got the gentle zap. There haven't been many times when a stronger zap was necessary, and it generally has worked. We've used this for a couple of months and she wears the collar about once a week now and if I hear her (now she has resorted to an occasional very quiet early morning "yip" at the fence) she gets the zap. She needs to completely stop the early morning noise and we've just about conquered the barking problem at the fence. She's smart and superstitious - if the bark brings the zap, then she won't bark, and she's remembering it most of the time now. The rest of it, her barking at the mail carrier, at people passing by in the street, at the lineman working on the power pole behind the house, that's okay, she's doing her job of telling me what's going on in the neighborhood. I usually put the collar on the night before and she wears it overnight and through the morning. I try never to put it on or remove it near any time when I will be deploying it so she hasn't figured out what the collar is about. They all wear the Invisible Fence collar so they're accustomed to collars with lumpy devices attached. The good thing about the control device and collar combination is that it works several hundred yards away. I don't need to try to sneak out the back door to make it work, I can control the collar from the house so she isn't wise to the fact that I'm the one controlling it. Like I said, dogs are superstitious, and if she thinks it's her bark at the fence alone that triggers the zap, that's the best way for it to work.

Great Quality!
Absolutely a great e collar and great customer service. Everything about this e collar is quality from the adjustable collar to the receiver and transmitter. I had an issue with the first collar I bought in that it would not charge after about 4 months. I contacted the companyโs customer support and the service could not have been better. I received a free replacement collar in about 3 or 4 days. I highly recommend this collar and the manufacturer.

Excellent service, no hassles!!!
Received item and was not paired and would not work. Contacted seller and they sent me new transmitter, still didn't work. Called them back and they sent a new collar to see if that would work and it did. Very happy with product and customer service is fantastic. No sence looking elsewhere.

Great customer service
I've used sportdog collars for my dogs for well over a decade. I mostly use them for off-leash hikes, just to ensure my dogs stay in close proximity while still getting to explore safely. While they were mostly used for my energetic young bird dogs, I also found them incredible as they got older and more deaf. Having a tone right near their neck or the vibration, they can explore without needing to hear me calling. Anyways- I just recently got two new dogs trained up on an old collar, and thought I'd order them their own. I got this and another add-a-dog collar, and set right to getting them all assigned to their proper button. I love that you can program it so easily for three dogs and still be able to use the tone (or vibration) and static correction. When setting up the new remote with an old collar and the two new ones, the one that came with the remote wasn't beeping due to a faulty speaker. I contacted the sportdog customer support live chat, and within 5 minutes I had a replacement collar on the way, without the annoying "well, did you turn it off and on" or "did you charge it properly" questions. Such wonderful service, and a great product. I always recommend this brand and will continue to do so!

Remote malfunctioned and was constantly stimming and caused burns/sores on my dog
Lasted less than a year before the remote malfunctioned and resulted in constant stimulation to my dog resulting in burns/open sores on her neck.

Does not work well on very fluffy dogs
This did not work out for us. Our dog has a crazy heavy undercoat and even with the longer prongs and removing some of the fur, it was impossible to ensure consistent contact. That said, the company itself was fantastic to deal with and refunded the purchase without question. I think this would work well on a most dogs, however it may be challenging for a Husky, Norwegian Elkhound or similar breed with a lot of hair.
