Great Value USB Microphone – Clear Sound with a Few Minor Drawbacks
I’ve been using the TONOR USB Podcast Microphone Kit for gaming, and it has exceeded my expectations for the price. It offers clear audio quality, easy setup, and a solid build that makes it a fantastic option for beginners and casual content creators. The microphone delivers clear, crisp, and natural sound with a cardioid pickup pattern, making it perfect for vocals, streaming, and podcasts. Background noise is minimized well, and the audio has a warm, rich tone, especially for speech. I was impressed by how clean the recordings sounded without much post-processing.Setup is a breeze—simply plug it into a USB port, and it’s ready to go. It’s fully compatible with Windows, macOS, PS4, and PS5, and it works perfectly with Discord, Twitch, and Zoom without needing additional drivers. The microphone itself feels sturdy and well-constructed, with a sleek, matte black finish. The included adjustable arm stand is surprisingly solid for the price. It clamps securely to my desk and provides good flexibility for positioning. The shock mount reduces vibrations, keeping the audio smooth and clean. This mic handles various applications well. The PS4 and PS5 compatibility is a nice bonus for console.Issues to consider:While the mic delivers good raw audio, it lacks onboard gain or volume controls, which means you’ll need to adjust levels through your PC’s settings or streaming software. Although the included arm stand is decent, it feels slightly flimsy when fully extended. For long-term use or heavier-duty setups, you may want to upgrade to a more stable boom arm. While the cardioid pattern reduces ambient noise, it still picks up some keyboard clicks and desk sounds, especially if you have a mechanical keyboard. Using a noise gate in software helps reduce this issue. The lack of a mute button can be inconvenient for streamers and podcasters who want to quickly cut their mic. Adding this feature would improve the overall usability.Overall:The TONOR USB Podcast Microphone Kit is a fantastic entry-level microphone that delivers clear sound, easy setup, and good versatility. It’s perfect for streaming, gaming, and casual recording, making it an excellent value for the price. While it lacks advanced controls and premium accessories, it’s still a solid choice for content creators on a budget. Highly recommended for gamers, streamers, and podcasters looking for affordable, plug-and-play performance with reliable audio quality.

Microphone came with a scratch, has oscillation, decided to keep it
I have been making a lot of Youtube videos for my students and have been thinking about making those public. However, the sound quality on them was not good from my headset-microphone, which was for gaming. So I got this one because of the good reviews and a well-timed Lightening Deal. The microphone came with a scratch, which made me wonder if it was a return, and also about their quality control. However, I still gave it a try. It is plug and play, with no installation or downloads necessary. The kit gives you everything you need to get started, including a windscreen and pop filter, as well as USB cord, boom arm, and microphone holder. The boom arm is a little weak; you really have to tighten the fasteners tightly at the joints, especially with the weight of the microphone and pop filter, otherwise, it will sink down. It feels cheap, and I will not be surprised if the screws strip or the arm fails within a few months. The microphone holder is an annoying design to get the microphone in and out, but I have seen similar designs from many manufacturers, so I suppose that can't be helped. The microphone itself feels heavy and robust. After eagerly setting up this microphone and running several test recordings, I was disappointed to discover it had an annoying oscillation in the recordings. (It's a kind of budabudabudabudabuda sound). This was most apparent when using Screen-O-Matic to record, but could still be heard when using Audacity to record. However, I decided to keep it when I found that Audacity's noise reducer erased it pretty easily, and that when importing my videos into Adobe Premiere Pro 2020, it dropped the noise automatically. Other than the oscillation, it is a great improvement over my previous one. It has a nice "full-bodiedness" when recording my voice, compared to the flat, tinny effect of my previous gaming mic. Since I import into Premiere anyway, I don't have a problem with this, but if you're not using software that's going to easily remove this interference, I would not use it to record.I wish the mic had an on/off button. Also, the volume button has no display of what it is set to, so its easy to forget. A dial, an LCD display, or even a series of small lights are all mechanisms that could be used here. As others have noted, the USB socket on the microphone is a little loose. Hopefully this doesn't cause a problem over time.

Outperforms price by far
I bought this years ago and am finally coming back to say believe the other reviews, it's legit, the quality for the price is unbeatable, and I'm glad to return after some time and see the reviews are still pouring in. You can find salty5844 on Twitch, YouTube, or TikTok and hear it in action, albeit I was working on mixing at the time so I'm a little quiet, but anything during 2024 is this microphone with nothing more than a noise gate and suppression in OBS Studio.
