Black Pepper Vegan Jerky - Bold, Traditional Extra Tough Texture - Hand Made

Okay, ignoring the ingredients, seasonings, moisture content, and so on - there are basically three types of jerky: Old-fashioned, traditional, and "soft & tender." Old-fashioned is more of the raw-hide, very dehydrated style that packs flavor and will get softer the more you chew on it. Traditional is a middle-of-the-road balance between very tough and soft enough to get a nice chunk without too much effort. As the name implies, "soft & tender" is just that - usually thicker pieces that are slightly rough with a good chew and easy to eat. This jerky? Definitely more like the old-fashioned style where you're going to have to fight a bit to get a good bite and it will take time to chew and break down. The flavor of this one in particular, is very "peppery" as in fresh-cracked black peppercorn. It has some spice to it for sure, but if you're a fan you won't be disappointed. I've tried all the flavors and this is by far the most flavorful to me and my favorite. If you're expecting a soft (or even medium) jerky, this ain't it. It's hard, it will fight back, and it packs a nice spicy pop as you eat it. The fact that it is vegan is all the more amazing. I picked up a jerky habit a long time ago while in the military, but after I became a vegetarian and like many others, jerky was something that was very hard to replace. I've tried many things - mushroom, seitan, jackfruit, soy, pea-protein, TVP, etc., and was never really a fan of the hard jerky styles. I found suitable replacements over the years, but I decided to give the old-fashioned style a try again. I must admit, having had this several times I'm beginning to become a fan over all the other styles I've liked better. With the other forms of jerky, it's more of a snack - you grab some, chew on it, and swallow like you would any other filling snack. With this type of jerky I can grab a small amount, start to chew on it, let it sit for a bit, chew some more, etc., and actually "savor" the product before swallowing and getting more. I'm definitely a fan and will continue to get more. But, know what you're getting into - before you rate this product bad, understand that this isn't a "tenderloin" product - it's tough, it's strong, and it will fight back! For being a vegan jerky this product is amazing and I can truly state from years of experience (with both real and vegetarian jerky) - this stuff is fantastic!

This is literally the best vegan jerky I have tried. I have tried the Louisville jerky which is also good but the texture is very unrealistic it almost feels like you're eating a sponge. The flavor of this jerky is spot on although it is a little spicy, I purchased it for the first time about 3 weeks ago and I have gone through seven or eight bags. I have missed eating beef jerky but because I love animals I refuse to eat meat and this tastes just like the real thing but even better. The texture is good it's more realistic than any of the other fake jerkies I've tried. The first bag that I bought the texture was much harder and tougher but every bag since has been completely amazing I am waiting for a shipment of more and I will be placing another one because I just ate two more bags in the last 2 days. A must-have and must try for anyone that wants to eat jerky without being cruel to animals. Just wish they made a larger bag!

I've been purchasing this product since 2020 and it is by far my favorite vegan/vegetarian jerky. Growing up in Texas jerky was my favorite treat. I've been a vegetarian for over 40 years now and this is by far the best vegan jerky I've tried. Just the right amount of firmness/toughness, spice, and delicious jerky flavor! My mouth is watering and I just ordered 4 more packages!

This to me is the best vegan jerky texture. I used to like real tough "dry" jerky before going vegan so this is spot on for me. Texturally you cannot tell that its not meat. Flavor wise is awesome as well although too spicy for me after one or two pieces. I know they make a couple other flavors but Id love to see this company make an "original" version. The cost is the reason I wont buy it again even though I love it. 2oz for almost $8 is ridiculous and unreasonable to me. Lets be honest, making seitan is pretty damn cheap. I get the labor but, its not something I can afford or justify on a regular basis which sucks. If they lowered the price a bit, im sure they'd have a lot more repeat customers as I know Id order enough monthly.

EXACTLY what I was looking for!! I have been missing jerky for so many years and have tried so many brands that I hav just chalked it up to a loss, but this stuff is so, SO good!! The only downside is the price:( The chew is perfect, the flavor is delicious with no weird aftertaste and I don’t find it very spicy! If anything there is a slight spice on your lips after, but please, please try this stuff!!

Local business in Lakewood, OH! This is my favorite vegan beef jerky by far. The texture is the most like real beef jerky out of all the brands I have tried and they all taste great, too!!

I really like the toughness and the spiciness of this jerky -- it's definitely a workout for your jaw. I love that they call it 'pleather', that's super appropriate for what you're getting with this. That said, there's a weird unpleasant soapy taste within the overall flavor. I read the ingredients and I *think* it's coming from the coconut oil. It's unfortunate because I love everything else about this jerky, but that odd taste is unpleasant enough that I might not order this again.

Will definitely purchase again the jerky was exactly how described. I use to be hooked on tofurky Jerry years ago but the company stop making it, but this stuff far exceeded my expectations it's my new favorite snack just wished more came in the package
