Does this pad have some soft give In the pad or is it really rigid rubber?

Not much give. Use a soft interface pad.

How thick is it? I need less than 3/4" to locate inside the guard on my Milwaukee.

I have never used the guard with sanding discs. I don't see how you could use it properly with the guard attached. Always wear a full face shield.

Will this work on a harbor freight angle grinder to sand woodworking

I used it on a DeWalt grinder for sanding and polishing
