what are the size measurments of the tool?

9"x2"x3/4" The other dimensions may be of the package. These are the true dimensions of the tool itself. It has a nice strong magnet on it too.

Could the magnet (which is soft and has to be glued or taped on) have some unevenness which would affect the accuracy of the level?

It could. Mine protrudes a uniform 0.50mm below the surface of the level for the full length without any noticeable waves or bumps. The other side of the level has the groove to fit to a pipe and measures the same error as the surface with the magnet.

How does this compare with the stanley 42-465 (http://www.amazon.com/stanley-42-465-9-inch-aluminum-torpedo/dp/b00002x2fe/ref=sr_1_1?s=hi&ie=utf8&qid=

Personally not familiar with the Stanley 42-465. I didn't use this level for long or often. Needed higher quality and stronger magnets.
