Question 1

Maybe a dumb question, but in the system requirements it says it needs "Broadband Internet service and modem with Ethernet connection". Does this mean I need a desktop modem to be hooked up? All I have is a laptop and PS3, will this work?

If you are only connecting to this device via its Wi-Fi functionality (laptop and PS3), then you don't reality need a "computer' to be connected to it at all except for the very first time to set it up, since you will need to access the setup console via the web to initially create your Wi-Fi (WLAN) network. You have a laptop and it will work just fine to set it up. No "desktop" computer needed specifically. Once you set it up for this first time, the device doesn't need to be connected to a computer at all, again if using for Wi-Fi aka access point. If you will be connecting to this router via its wired connections (4 LAN ports on the back), then you can connect a desktop, laptop, or any other device which has a network card with an RJ-45 connection; almost all computers have one, and video game consoles, and smart TVs.

Does this router have gigabit lan? This is the second router that I have found on amazon that has conflicting information. Image at bottom says yes.

Nope just 100mbpsEDIT: if you are still looking for a gigabit wireless router, I have ordered and received an Asus RT-N66U wireless router. It has the same dual band wireless capabilities as the wndr3400, but much better range and built in gigabit switch. No dropped signals in the two weeks I've been using it. Much happier with Asus!

Can this router work for windows 11?

Yes.  The router connects to your ISP provider's box, and will communicate with any wifi device.    If you've never installed one before, it can be a little tricky.  Just be sure to follow the instructions exactly, and use the password found on the device.
