Wonderful, low stress way to teach children to play chess
This set has been fabulous for teaching my competetive six year old how to play chess, despite the fact that he has a difficult time focusing sometimes. The puzzles are engaging and incorporate the concepts of chess so that he is really learning to play the game as each puzzle builds on itself, yet he doesn't get too anxious or disappointed because of the way it is designed. I am even getting better at chess myself as I walk him through the puzzles, and he is very excited to begin playing the actual game. We are almost through all of the puzzles, and he now has a good understanding of all the pieces and moves. He is always excited to play, and so am I. Thanks for making such a great introduction to chess for kids!

Nice beginning set
I like the puzzle board. The game pieces are all the same size and clearly marked. There are different games to build strategy. I got this for my 9 year old son for Christmas and he seems to like it well. I think it’s good as a beginning set.

Great beginners chess set for kids!
The Chess Junior Chess Set for Kids is a very sturdy product. I expected the puzzle/board to be a bit flimsy but it is very thick and well made and the blocks with the chess pieces pics on them are great for smaller hands. It comes with an easy-to-read instruction booklet as well, so the girls enjoyed learning how to play.

Great Idea, Could Use Some Imagination
I purchased this item as a gift for a five-year-old. Before I provide my adult perspective, I should say that my nephew seems to love it, even though he's still too young, really, to absorb the piece-by-piece learning structure of the game.BUT—for more than $20, you really don't get a lot in the box. It's a very small package, and you can see in the attached photos that the chessboard isn't much more than six large cardboard puzzle pieces. The chess pieces themselves are merely white blocks with icons of the pawns, knights, rooks, etc., printed on them. Again, for more than $20, I would have expected something a little more colorful, something a little more illustrative (how to teach a five-year-old what a rook or a pawn *is*/*represents*?), something a little more specially crafted for kids. I've always found one of the great delights of a chess set to be beautifully designed/carved pieces. None of that delight is to be had here. The emphasis of this game/kit it really the sample games that teach how each piece moves and behaves, not the quality and craftsmanship of the materials themselves. To me, that's a bit of a shame. I would have been willing to buy the instructional booklet at a lower price, and then have purchased a more inspiring chess set. But, again, this wasn't for me, and the target audience doesn't seem much to mind.
