Travelpro Bold Softside Carry-On Rollaboard, Grey/Black, 22-Inch

Travelpro is one of the (very few) luggage manufacturers that makes roll-aboard bags with two sturdy wheels, versus the un-explicable industry trend toward those stupid and fragile spinner wheels that are largely useless once you want to wheel the bag outside of an airport's smooth floors. (try those spinners to wheel a packed bag on a cobblestone street sometime...). For that reason alone, this bag is superior to most midrange luggage. But there's more - like many Travelpro models, this has a zippered liner, built in pockets, and straps for holding things in place. Because it is not a "clamshell" with the main zipper down the middle, you can actually use it on the typical suitcase rack that hotels provide in every room - the lid is on top and you can open/ use the bag with the lid standing up. Has an RFID protected side pocket, two ball-bearing wheels (which can be replaced with indestructible skateboard wheels when needed), and a pull handle protected with a zippered pocket. It also has two exterior straps that will take pressure off of the main zipper when the bag is packed full. Travelpro bags are the go-to brand for Airline employees who travel frequently. They maximize carrying capacity while fitting in tight overhead bins. My wife loves this bag as the blue/black coloring makes it much easier to spot in a sea of black bags at baggage claim. I can recommend this bag as a good value for the money, and good functionality when moving around, especially when traveling on trains, subways, etc.

The Travelpro Bold 22" Rollaboard measurements are right at the maximum allowable carry-on dimensions I have seen for many airlines. The Bold 22" Rollaboard will give you the most storage space you can get with a carry-on. When it comes to luggage, I tend to prefer the 2-wheel upright versions to the 4-wheel spinner versions. For me, the two wheels are more protected, and less likely to get snapped off or damaged during travel and baggage handling. 2-wheel upright luggage will also tend to be more stable on lightly sloped surfaces. I have never had any issues with maneuverability with my previous 2-wheel upright luggage. The Bold 22" Rollaboard sits perfectly vertical and is very stable when resting on the wheels and bottom support bar. As long as the weight of the items loaded inside the carry-on are reasonably balanced front-to-back, there should not be any issues with the carry-on tipping over in either direction. However, if you hang a purse or other luggage over the handles that extends over the front of the Bold carry-on, you may run into stability issues depending on how heavy that purse/luggage is (the same would be true when using a spinner-style carry-on). The Travelpro Bold 22" Rollaboard frame is solidly constructed. There are three rugged, securely attached cloth handles positioned in convenient locations for lifting. The Bold 22" is lighter than my smaller Eagle Creek carry-on that it is replacing. The aluminum pull-out handle feels like it may not be quite as sturdy as my much older luggage, but it could just be that lighter and still sturdy materials have been developed over the last 20 years. The pull-out handle has a zippered cover for protection, and I will be sure to zip this up if I need to hand the carry-on to the baggage handlers at the gate. There are two zipper styles: - There is one sturdier style zipper that has thicker pull tabs and the metal hoops for TSA locks. - The rest of the zippers have smaller teeth and smaller pull tabs. They still seem sturdy and zip smoothly, but they are not as large. These zippers are for the multiple exterior and interior compartments. They don't have the metal hoops for TSA locks, but you might be able to fit a TSA cable lock through the zipper pull tab holes (keep in mind, though, you might damage the pull tabs or zipper if the lock gets pulled hard) I really appreciate all the different storage areas available in this carry-on! Inside the main luggage area there two additional mesh pockets and one waterproof storage pocket. There are three external zippered pockets for easy access on the aircraft. One pocket is located on the back for holding your cell phone or car keys (But not both, unless you love to get your phone screen scratched!) Note: The Bold's "tablet" external storage pocket is designed for smaller tablets, and won't hold screen sizes larger than 11". The Travelpro website gives a list of example tablets that are or are not compatible with the carry-on. Note that while the Bold 22" Rollaboard has "expandable" capability, it really doesn't get you much more space - maybe an inch or so of additional depth. This is a feature that you will probably rarely use. Overall, I am very satisfied and impressed with the Travelpro Bold 22" Rollaboard construction and design. I had to search through a lot of luggage online before deciding on the Travelpro Bold line. I picked this up on sale, so it was a nice bonus!

Very nice. Expends two inches. Good side straps. Wheels much better than typical hard plastic with rubber outer. Those break and disintegrate after a couple years. Strong handle to hold slide in backpack. Outer nylon seems tough. Easy to spot. Stands up with slide in on the handle. Rolls easy. Replaced older Swiss two wheel. Will fit in overhead. Might be too long for some Smaller Euro budget airlines. Got three weeks of clothes along with backpack for Mediterranean island hopping. Probably last of the good two wheelers.

I travel a lot internationally and I bought this to replace another well worn bag. This bag is very easy to pack with 4 days of clothes, travel sling, a jacket and toiletries fitting easily. It is a good value for the money because carry on bags can be ridiculously expensive. It is also lightweight for a larger carry on. So far I’ve used this bag on 5 long trips, 3 of these trips I was able to check the bag on my return trip. The bag has been very durable and seems to be scratch resistant and the zippers have held up well. The handle is comfortable to pull but I find the wheels a weakness for the bag. They are not as steady as they should be especially on uneven ground. In the airport or on smooth pavement it is fine not exceptional. I would totally recommend this bag as it is a good value and roomy.

Great midsize check in luggage. It is lightweight and has good size outside pockets for organization. I prefer the two wheels as it rolls well on cobblestones. It is stable when upright and the handle is the perfect height. I love Travelpro!

I've tried different suitcase configurations over decades of travel: hard vs. soft; spinner vs. 2-wheeled, etc. This one replaces a hard-sided 26" spinner rendered unusable mid-trip via airline handling; while it was easy to wheel on a completely flat, smooth surface, it would glide away on a sloped surface when unattended & the wheels would catch in flooring/pavement gaps. I do not like the spinner configuration & will not purchase another. I wanted a suitcase with two wheels & this is my best one yet, so let's cut to the chase: Pros: Size: It's large enough for several weeks worth of clothing (depending on season) but not so large as to risk overpacking & exceeding the typical airline 50# weight limit - at least, I haven't done so yet. The heaviest I've ever loaded it (fully stuffed with clothing & 1-2 pairs of shoes) was 39#. Appearance: Not garish yet it's easy to spot among the parade of all-black cases on the baggage claim carousel. I like the yellow interior liner, as it makes it easy to see what's inside. I've made 3 round trips w/ this suitcase this year & there is not a scuff or loose thread visible. Stability: It's a bit wider at the wheel end & has never tipped over when fully packed. Maneuverability: There are handles on the top, both short sides, & on the long side opposite the hinge. No matter which way the case is sitting there's one convenient to grab. The telescoping handle for towing is comfortable for me (I'm 5'7"). Configuration: One of the three zippered pockets is plastic, for 'leakables' or wet items. I use it to hold a plastic pencil box containing my toiletries. Cons: Seems a bit heavy for its size, but it's an acceptable trade-off for the sturdiness. Other comments: I think the aspect ratio is a bit different than for the typical ~26" case; it seems narrower but deeper than usual. Consequently, folded slacks leave less space along the sides; I view this as a plus as the clothes don't slide as much when the case is sitting on its edge. There's space at the top or bottom edge for shoes or other items. I hope this suitcase lasts a long time as I noticed while shopping that two-wheeled cases seem to be increasingly supplanted with spinners & that some manufacturers have eliminated the former from their product line. So far, this suitcase has exceeded my expectations & it's perfect for me.

Just received my Travelpro medium luggage today and I love it! It seems to be very well made and is very sturdy when filled to the brim and it rolls great. I had my doubts about the ease of pulling it when packed to 50 lbs but it pulls just like if it was empty. It doesn't fall forward when fully packed. I tested it on the cobblestone like patio and on carpet and on tile, no change. I love all the handles on it and it holds a lot more than it looks. It's really nice looking too, I got the blue/black. I bought this for my trip to Europe next year but I will be using it on all my travels. It seemed a little pricy but I've spent a lot more on various Samsonite luggage and there's no comparison. So I think it's worth it to spend the extra money up front and have a reliable sturdy suitcase.

This thing is awesome, well built, rolls easy. Has multiple handles to lift it, makes it nice for overhead bins. Has to be the best roller bag I have ever had. I am going to buy the larger size for checked luggage as well. Would highly recommend.

Bought two of these suitcases for an extended trip that will have multiple destinations. We were looking for something that had a flexible outer shell, and durable rollerblade wheels for easier rolling on rough surfaces. These look very well constructed and are very light. Will update after we have traveled. UPDATE: The suitcases were an excellent choice for our travels and survived 7 airline flights and 2 train trips with no damage or significant signs of wear. By using packing cubes, we were able to pack more than we needed for a month long vacation, including hiking boots and a travel tripod for our camera. The tall and narrow shape and the flexible sides and top made them easy to pack in vehicles, and the 2 rollerblade wheels were a dream to handle on concrete surfaces compared to the 4 wheel spinner style. The wheels are very durable and well protected from impact that could cause breakage, and were more than capable of being used even on gravel driveways. The zippers are very heavy duty and move without binding. The straps that close over the zipper and act as a safeguard against zipper failure are a nice touch, as are the grab handles located on the top, bottom, and side. It was very easy to grab the suitcases from carousels and placing them into vehicles was much easier. I would not hesitate to recommend Travel Pro Tpro Bold, and will probably purchase more of their luggage in the future.

Got this for a trekking adventure to Europe but haven't used it yet. I researched all over for a proper rolling duffel bag but could not find anything appropriate so decided to give this a try instead. Yes, it's expensive so I sure hope it's worth it. It stands empty upright and it looks like a solid, well made bag inside out. My only concern is, I'm hoping my clothes and gear for a month will fit nicely but if not, it will be a good practice to pack lighter!

It's rugged and has been well suited to dragging over the rough roads in Europe as hoped. It has stood up to quote a beating in that respect. But, the low point to think about, it's shape means the depth is very high and this limits the overhead carriage it can fit in. I ran into a lady who commented she had the smaller bag for that reason. But a good buy at discounted price, hopefully it makes it through a few more trips. One other point it does tend to twist when one wheel drops at an angle coming down a curb. Had to stop a few times as it wanted to do a 180 in my hand!
