What is the current draw to switch as well as to hold the relay closed at 12 volts?

3.6 amps while changing state then .7amp at 12v to hold it closed.

Do you need to put this solenoid in parallel with a back fly diode if i want to to connect a switch for it? ?

I used a rocker switch to activate the solenoid to use less heavy gauge cable

On the web page the installation page shows a fuse between the source and solenoid. What size and type do you recommend?

You can install a 2 amp fuse for the latch wiring (red and black wires). You should also have a fuse in between the battery and the line in post on the solenoid. This fuse (or breaker) needs to be sized to whatever the line out is servicing (within the limits of solenoid). Check with a local electrician if you are confused during installation. Its better to be safe.

We bought 2 of these; one had nothing but the solenoid in the package. Fortunately, the second one had the wiring info, etc.
