To powerfull
basically long story short my tech level is higher, this is a great amp and is overpowered :P also i've owned this for 7 months, i run 2 crappy 12 kenwood duel voice coils of which you shouldn't buy ... this was my review on kenwood kfc xw1224D car Sub I RECOMMEND YOU READING THIS I PUT TIME INTO THIS.. SKIP STORY AND GO TO BOTTOM FOR NO STORY. - 'Overrated' these Subs are overrated and over-priced, My cousins 2 Dual 12s and them cheapo s have more Thump, more reasons below..or story rather, hah.. - 'inconsistent quality' I had the 2 subs hooked up @ 4 Ohm with x2 Kenwood Kac-9105D 1800-Watt Class D Mono Amplifier: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0037ZRP7G/ref=oh_o02_s01_i00_details with 2 caps, then after i primed my system out with a good safe sub frequency ( how fast it moves, less the safer but less Decibels) Within the threshold of a good 30-50 Hz hit and then another safe nudge less so i do not have a muffling or over frequented sub, and the most Bass boost tuned without muffling the sub with some hard low deep hits all done great! i smelt a new smell Great! smells good! -34-38 DAYS LATER: (unknowing to me it was just the 1 sub stinking not both of them) Randomly i've noticed when i walked back in the vehicle that i thought it was the new smell but this smell should've gone by now and this new smell is kind've turning more into an electrical short out smell but not hardcore. -5-7 DAYS LATER THAT WEEKEND: Well i need to find out if i have dials wrong i thought and so i investigate, so i've tweeked it out and moved some dials and tuned it up a bit and what do you know its what i feared i smelt it horribly, so then i re primed the system back to where it was again and then some less.. -5-7 DAYS LATER THAT WEEKEND: I still smelt this 'smell' but more on the line of burnt out speakers or electronics, so then i tweeked with my system beyond the subs, amps, added another cap, thought it was the amps not enough power and it's shorting out because these subs never really did pump out the Db, Tried using 1 amp, tried lots of scenarios, including but not limited to no amplification from the headunit and only the amp, and vise versa, running another 0 guage wire from bat, bought a new cap, no bass boost...Anyhow lets just say i found the problem randomly working on it the next few days and it was a trial n error it was the one sub that was smelling burnt out so then I switched my subs to 8 Ohm. Reprimed my system, obviously i turned the dials up a bit further from prevous, anyhow this seemed to do the trick .. to a point i just cant Pound my subs for more then 3-4 minutes without stinking my car up.. that one sub is and was horrible, oh i didn't add but im not re editing in there, i disconected the other sub for a week with these new settings and no smell.. -November ( 2 months later and then some ) Same output setup, but both subs hooked up, basically same settings as i left it... I've sent a message to these guys on amazon asking for a full refund i wish i had the letter copied i didn't know till this day they would not respond.. well they didn;t respond, all i want is this 1 sub replaced.. i have bought all kenwood products, i don't even want to deal with these ... *** holes because i spent all this money on all kenwood and they don't even respond to tell me a negative response **** them -TONIGHT 1 HR 20 MIN LATER WRITING MY RESPECTFUL HONEST REVIEW OF THIS PRODUCT: well to this day i am never buying a product off kenwood and to this day i still have the sub but i spitefully turn it up and currently the subwoolfer is still alive and seeming doing well i haven't checked it since Jan, 4 months ago, the smell has gone down alot... in these past 4 months but i'm sure the output of that subwoolfer also has went down dramatically. I can tell from, my Rear view mirror doesnt fall off anymore to my song, but i don't care when they go I'll buy me some cheapo not from wall mart kids, online just some random cheapo 12 for 60 bucks total that's what you do.. this cost me 255 kids.. overall: VERY BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE ON AMAZON 2/10 , SUBS HAVE INCONSISTENT QUALITY I RATE 5/10 , IT HAS HIGHLY UNDERSPECED PERFORMANCE 4/10 ( don't listen when they say this sub a great bang for your buck because it performs with the 400 dollar subs) Lastly, IT HAS AN OVERLY OVER PRICED PRICETAG : 3/10 ( this is an 50 dollar sub, go to walmart instead ) I bought this not even 7 months ago and lol its down to 95$ i paid $255 for 2 kenwoods a joke.. I WANT A REPLACEMENT KENWOOD.. GIVE ME ONE IT STILL WORKS NO HARM DONE just SMELLS! and i'd say a 20% PERFORMANCE DROP

Big size is big power
First off i ordered this item as my very first car amp as I have never done anything like this before so I am not an expert by any means. When I began to research a amp for my 2 12" JBL gt5 I was looking for a big and powerful beast to match my needs. This amp meets all my needs for power and reliability. Its fan helps keep it cool as I run it at 2 ohms. Note if you run at 2 ohms make sure the amp can breathe. The amp itself is a monster and never faults in power. It's one of the best amps for the money and defiantly the most power to money ratio. (except for cheap boss amps that suck and can't run near what they say.) this amp can do everything it says. The one and only drawback is the size of this monster. It's huge! If your doing all of this in a tight space then make sure you have a good spot picked out before you buy this. I am adding my subs and amp to my truck. As everyone knows trucks do not have a lot of room in the back like most cars but I have a spot picked out. Overall I give 4.5 stars. It would be a 5 if it was a little smaller. But for the price i can't complain. Buy this amp if you want power but not if your looking to cram it all into one spot.

BUMPIN!!!
First of all, I'm a BASS-head from more than a decade ago. After having a child, I thought all that was over with. Luckily, a friend of mine had a 12" Kicker Solo-baric (L7) in a ported box he just gave me because he was going to upgrade his system. I did some homework on amps. I was at first looking at the Kenwood 1000 watt amp but later saw the 1800 watt amp for just a few dollars more. This amp goes for $299 at Best Buy which boggles my mind!!! I was FedEx'd this within less than a week from California (I'm in South Carolina). My friend hooked it up in my 2008 Chevy Colorado truck with 4 gauge Tsunami amp kit and Monster Oxygen free speaker wire and my factory head unit (which requires a speaker line input). He hooked the remote through a switch he installed in the dash (we're law enforcement- gotta have a cut off). When I first turned it on, it went BOOM!!! He began adjusting the gain on the amp. I had to tell him, not that much!!! This thing has some power and it is beating up my truck really nicely. I listen to mostly rap, R&B, Old School, Rock, and Metal from way back (Metallica etc.) I'm very happy with the set up. Eventually, I'll get a head unit, but for now, I'm gitty!!! BTW, once he adjusted the gain, he told me to look at the factory head unit's EQ, the bass was on 0!!! That way, I can continue to bump up the bass as I slowly lose my hearing!!! Awesome amp, very worth it!!! Bumped for an hour or so the other day, amp was cool to the touch!!! It has 2 fans in it, to help with keeping it cool. GET IT, you WON'T BE SORRY!!! RESPECT YOUR NEIGHBORS and TURN IT DOWN WHEN YOU APPROACH...some day you may need their help!!! UPDATE: October 25, 2017- FYI- Iโm still bumping with the SAME amp with my SAME speaker! Crazy! UPDATE #2: April 14, 2023- FYI- My 16 year old son is now bumping with the same amp and same speaker in a different vehicle! Wow!

Great Amp if it didn't cut out all the time
This amp would be perfect if it didn't cut out every time a hard bass line kicks in, Kenwood amps just aren't the best out there. Great price and everything, i just wish that it would work like it is supposed to and not cut out all of the time. Kenwood should problably test them before they sell them to their consumers. I have an all Kenwood system in my car, i would hate to loose kenwood's great reputation, but Kenwood has lost me as a customer. My next car, i am not buying any Kenwood stuff, it's all junk.

Banging Amp
Very nice product, good clean bass, hitting hard. I went with this setup after blowing up 2 10'' amplified Bazooka Tube boxes, I said that I would not buy another one. I took the 2 10'' Bazooka Tube woofers and put them in a vented enclosure powered by this Kenwood Amplifier and my factory system.....man, what a difference it made. Of course, I can't run it at full power because of the 10''s but it's more bass than I'll ever need, as I'm not trying to play for the neighborhood. I had the amp installed professionally at Best Buy as I am disabled and can't reach all the areas to do the install myself. I've been reading the reviews about this amp overheating and going into protect mode but so far, I have not experienced any problems. It's does get hot but it's working great, I'm happy with it. Will update if anything changes

Great price, not alot of power.
Notice how the specs are rated at 14.4 volts in perfect conditions. No ones car runs at this voltage cleanly and consistently all the time. After you take into account temperature humidity, length of wires, quality of power wire... etc, you get much less. Really your cars alternator puts out 13.0 - 13.8 at best. So in reality your playing this amp at 13.0 - 13.8 volts and sometimes down to 12 volts under heavy loads. So instead of 500 watts your getting about 350w. This amp is overrated, or at least rated at un-realistic expectations. Also, this amp should not be run under 4 ohms. At 2 ohms it will over heat and shut down. If you match this with a 4ohm sub that's rated about 300-400 watts you'l be happy with it. Very cheap price helps make up for the complaints. If you got the extra cash go for a real amp like a JL 500/1 or 1000/1 who have very reliable performance and consist output across varies voltages and ohms. UPDATE: (July 3, 2013) After having the same model several times and other kenwood models, my opinion still stands. You will get a solid 350-400 watts from this unit so pair a 4ohm subwoofer to that power range.

Exactly what I was looking for
My original set up was two 10" Kicker CVR in a Kicker Ported Box, wired parallel (so only one speaker input on the box) They're both a DVC 2ohm 800W peak and 500W rms. I had both wired at 2ohms powered by a Kenwood 800W amplifier, it was a pretty old amp. Whenever I would drive it a loud volume, the amp would overheat and hit protection mode, cool off and then turn back on. Even at low volumes the amp was extremely hot to the touch. Noticing this problem I decided I needed a better amplifier to suit my set up at a price that wouldn't hurt my pocket too much. I first saw the 1000W version of this amp, but then realizing I needed an amp with 1ohm capabilities I went ahead and ordered this one. This amp is awesome! I mounted it to the back of my box and it gives my set up a professional look. I didn't mess with any of the levels it was already set at, and I can turn up the volume with no problems! It pushes my subs nice and hard. Even after kicking for a long time, the amp stays cool to the touch with it's dual fans and thermal management system. GREAT BUY, I RECOMMEND.

Can't handle 1ohm without shutting off. Not 1ohm stable.
I paired this amp with 2 1400watt 4ohm dvc subs and intended to wire them to 1 ohm (more power). When I hooked it all up and got a song going the amp shut off when the bass hit hard. I've had people tell me I need to check my ground wire so I intend to do that. If that fixes the issue I'll update this review. Until then I'm running the subs at 4ohm and they sound great. Update: Put them back at 1ohm and double checked my ground (all fine). The amp continued to shut off and today it died from medium use at 1ohm. Attempting to return it, won't be purchasing another.
